Look, man, it’s not them; it’s you. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) Last game The Reds began a visit with the Washington Nationals on the wrong foot yesterday, losing 1-8. They left Bronson Arroyo out there for 6.0 innings, even though the 6 runs (5 earned) he allowed came in the second and third innings. I guess they figured there was plenty of time to make it up? But that would require the offense to be present, and the Reds offense has been away on holiday lately. The Reds’ only run came from a solo shot by Joey Votto in the fourth inning. Hell, that was the Reds’ only HIT. Also, the Reds had two errors. Blerg. Next game Tonight Homer Bailey (RHP, 1-1, 3.24 ERA) tries to make up for the disastrophe that was last night’s game when he faces off against Jordan Zimmermann (RHP, 3-1, 2.67 ERA). Bailey is coming off a no-decision against the Marlins last Sunday, while Zimmermann’s coming off a loss to the Mets. A bad day? Or something more? I didn’t have the stomach to watch most of last night...

Reds in search of honorary bat girl

From the Reds... Join Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds in the fight against breast cancer. Fans 18 years and older are encouraged to submit stories about how they, or someone they know, are "Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer" and why they would like to be an "Honorary Bat Girl" for the Reds at Great American Ball Park on Sunday, May 12, which...

Minor League Game Review – 4/25/13

Louisville lost 1-0. Box Score Neftali Soto went 1-3 with a walk. Denis Phipps went 1-2 with a walk. Chad Reineke threw 7 shutout innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts. Curtis Partch allowed a run in 2 innings with a walk and a strikeout. Game Notes The Bats offense continued to struggle and the Bats wasted a great pitching performance by Chad Reineke. Billy Hamilton drew a walk...

25 of the most outrageous player names in Reds history

One of the perks of having the oldest franchise in professional sports is the long list of unusual names that have played for the team. Throughout it's 143-year history, the Cincinnati Reds have accumulated a who's-who of outrageous player names. And for your viewing and reading pleasure, I've compiled a 25-man roster full of the best I could find. Caution: If you...

Votto says Nats' Harper can't fail

The Reds' Joey Votto called me over to his locker on Friday. He had something he wanted to say. "Bryce Harper is pretty good," Votto said, smiling. Initially, as I reported on the MLB on Fox pre-game show Saturday , I thought Votto was kidding. But he wasn't, not at all. The quote you're about to read about Harper is not from some media myth-maker, but one...

Bad-rroyo debuts in Reds 8-1 loss against the Nationals

Bronson Arroyo waits for a new ball after Bryce Harper lost one in the seats. It took until the fifth start of the 2013 season, but Bronson Arroyo’s evil, incompetent twin Badrroyo finally made his first appearance. Arroyo pitched six innings, allowing nine hits, six runs–five earned, while striking out two. It was a bad performance that the Reds’ offense had no hope of overcoming...

In brief: Reds take 8 of 10-game homestand

Frazier’s home run wasn’t just a total bomb at 480 feet, it was also the only run scored by either team. (AP Photo/Al Behrman) Last game The Reds won the day game to take the series from the Cubs. Mat Latos was great. Todd Frazier hit a 480-foot homer. The baseball gods were just generally smiling. Read the whole game wrap, complete with pictures of a sad Cub! Next game Tonight...

Cincinnati Reds Activate Pitcher Sean Marshall

MLB News: The Cincinnati Reds left handed pitcher Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled list Friday. Having a weak throwing shoulder, the rest should do Marshall plenty of good. But seeing is believing though, and until he helps support a strong back end to the Cincinnati bullpen, nothing should be taken for granted. Fantasy Ramifications: Marhsall holds no true fantasy value other...

Game 22: Cubs 0, Reds 1

The Reds took the game and the series from the Cubs yesterday, but just barely. Mat Latos was great and finally got a win for his efforts. He put in 7.0+ innings and allowed 0 runs on 4 hits and a walk. One of those hits and the walk were to the first two guys he faced in the eighth, though, so it was a good time to bring in Jonathan Broxton for three quick outs. Aroldis Chapman...

Heisey leaves game with hamstring injury

Washington (AP) -- Cincinnati left fielder Chris Heisey left the Reds' game against the Washington Nationals Saturday in the third inning with a strained right hamstring. Heisey appeared to suffer the injury when he grounded into a double play to end the top of the second inning. Reds manager Dusty Baker and trainer Paul Lessard came out to check on Heisey, who remained in the...

The Bryce Harper Monster Bomb off Bunny Arroyo that wrecked by gambling account

May 7th, 2009: I tried to be sneaky tonight by taking a prop bet that Bryce Harper would NOT homer off Bronson Arroyo. You figure that Arroyo is a veteran pitcher who should know better than to pitch to the one hitter in the Nationals cold lineup who can hurt you. What resulted was one of the longest home runs that Bryce Harper has ever hit. After the ball landed on the centerfield...

Zimmerman holds Reds to 1 hit in Nats' 1-0 win

On Friday night, the Cincinnati Reds saw something the franchise hasn't experienced in more than 113 years. If they're lucky, it won't happen again for another 113 years. Washington's Jordan Zimmermann was terrific in his second complete game of the season and the Nationals limited the Cincinnati Reds to one hit for the second straight game in a 1-0 victory on Friday...

Cingrani strikes out 4 in 1 inning for Reds

Tony Cingrani started the fourth inning with a strikeout, but the batter reached on a wild pitch. The next hitter doubled, and after striking out Bryce Harper, another batter walked to load the bases. But as he always does, Cingrani kept attacking. With the bases loaded, Cingrani threw only one ball while striking out Ian Desmond and threw only one more ball while striking out...

Denard's Defense Dazzles, Offense Ignites In Nats 6-3 Victory Over Reds

The Nats offense reignited on Saturday following a game where Jordan Zimmermann pitched so well that the offense never even had to light up to earn the win. The Nats ran Reds starter Mike Leake from the game early en route to a 6-3 victory, a series win, and an opportunity for a four-game sweep in Sunday’s day game. Dan Haren helped his own cause early on the offensive side...

Random observations from week four

by: Dan Howard Staff Writer The 2013 baseball season is well into its fourth week and here are my observations, sprinkled with a few random notes, from what has been a pretty good season thus far. Good News! The Cincinnati Reds have won 12 of 16 at Great American Ballpark this season. The Reds are on pace to win 61 home games this year. Bad News! After Thursday’s...

Nats Will Try To Jumpstart Offense Against Reds

After being swept in the previous series to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Washington Nationals (10-11) will continue their home stand by facing another tough NL Central opponent, the Cincinnati Reds (13-9). Being swept by the Cardinals dropped the Nationals’ record below .500 for the first time since 2011, when they finished the season 80-81. In order to bring their record up...
