So, what is Manny Ramirez [stats] thinking in the ninth inning, game on the line, men on first and second, with the Red Sox [team stats] down by a run? In other words, what was the slugger's thought process late Wednesday afternoon?
If anybody knows, it's Charlie Maher.
"As far as I'm concerned, Manny is at an elite level in terms of being able to focus and go pitch to pitch," explained Maher, the Cleveland Indians' sports psychologist. "What he is able to do that separates him from other players is his ability to keep his mind in the moment. Secondly, he is able, for the most part, to accept the situation, whatever that moment is in the moment, and the pitch. He doesn't get caught up in what is happening around him."
