The Cleveland Indians have acquired Mike Aviles and Yan Gomes from the Blue Jays for Esmil Rogers, the involved teams announced.
Aviles was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Red Sox as compensation for manager John Farrell. Aviles will be rejoining new Indians manager Terry Francona whom he played briefly for in 2011. Aviles who can play anywhere in the infield (besides first base) or the corner outfield spots hit .250/.282/.381 with 13 home runs and 60 RBIs.
Rogers who originally started his career with the Rockies was designated for assignment on June 8th after starting the season 0-2 with a 8.06 ERA, 0.7 HR/9, 6.3 BB/9 and 10.2 SO/9 in 25.2 innings. A few days later, he was traded to the Indians for a bag of chips (cash considerations). With the Indians, Rogers posted a 3.06 ERA with a 0.8 HR/9, 9.2 k/9 and 2.0/BB.
