The Cleveland Indians have activated third baseman Jack Hannahan from the 15-day disabled list for the start of their interleague series with Pittsburgh. Hannahan, who had been out since May 28 with a strained left calf, is in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Pirates. Hannahan also missed time earlier this season with a lower back issue. This was his first career trip to the DL. To make room for Hannahan, the Indians optioned left-hander Scott Barnes to Triple-A Columbus. He pitched in four games with Cleveland. Indians manager Manny Acta said Hannahan will not play every day as he slowly works his way back. Lonnie Chisenhall will also get playing time at third. Hannahan is batting .276 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 31 games.

Carlos Santana levels fan chasing down foul

Your browser does not support iframes. During today's Indians-Reds game, newly acquired Indians reliever Esmil Rogers was facing Reds third baseman Todd Frazier in the fifth inning. Frazier popped the ball foul towards the first base line, and Indians first baseman Carlos Santana (who is typically behind the dish as a catcher for Cleveland) barreled towards the stands to catch...

Masterson shows signs of improvement

If the Indians are going anywhere this season, their pitching staff will have to take them there. The staff stumbled out of the gate, but there are indications of late that two key pitchers may have turned the corner. One of them is No. 1 starter Justin Masterson, who pitched seven strong innings Friday to anchor a 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Masterson pitched seven scoreless...

Indians first baseman Santana accidentally tackles fan (Video)

Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana (no relation to the legendary rock guitarist) accidentally tackled a fan in the front row while leaping into the stands chasing a foul popup during Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the top of the fifth inning on a foul popup by Reds third baseman Todd Frazier...

Box Score: Indians 2, Pirates 0

For the second straight start, Justin Masterson was dominant, striking out nine and blanking the Pirates for seven strong innings, as the Tribe defeated the Buccos 2-0 in front of nearly 32,000 fans at Progressive Field. The Indians broke the scoreless tie in the third with a two-out RBI double by Carlos Santana on a full count that scored Asdrbual Cabrera. In the eighth inning,...

GIFcap: Carlos Santana Tackles Fan Who Provides Him Ample Cushioning

I hope Carlos Santana was honest and said that the only reason he risked diving into the stands to catch that ball was because he knew he had safety measures there in the form of that fan

Indians 2, Pirates 0

Justin Masterson pitched seven effective innings and the Cleveland Indians snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. Masterson (3-6) allowed four hits, struck out nine and ended his own three-game slide. He wriggled out of threats in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Vinnie Pestano worked the eighth and Chris Perez pitched...

Box Score: Pirates 9, Indians 2

This game was close. I swear. You look at this and you’d think, “whelp, Ubaldo must’ve had one of those days”, but that is not the case. Jimenez did his best Dave Burba impression (6.0 IP, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4K) but the Tribe’s bats never figured out Pirates starter AJ Burnett. Both times the Indians scored (two solo shots, from Cabrera and Kotchman, respectively), Ubaldo gave...

Dusty Baker Responds Back To Derek Lowe’s Comments

Well it was only a matter of time before shots were fired. This morning, Reds manager came back with some harsh comments towards Indians starter Derek Lowe, who last night called Baker out for purposely ordering Mat Latos to throw at him. These quotes are courtesy of John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer: “He had some words for me. I really didn’t want to make a public thing...

Video: Man down! Carlos Santana levels Reds fan in pursuit of foul ball

Your browser does not support iframes. It was a tough, tough series for the entire Cleveland Indians ball club as they were swept by the Reds on Thursday. But it had to be especially tough for one member of the Tribe in particular -- Carlos Santana. Seen here is the first basemen/catcher/designated hitter leavng his feet into the crowd in pursuit of a foul ball...

Indians fall to Pirates, Brantley's streak ends

CLEVELAND (AP) -- A.J. Burnett became the first Pittsburgh pitcher since 1990 to win six straight starts and Pedro Alvarez homered twice as the Pirates beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2 Saturday. Burnett (7-2) gave up two runs over 6 2-3 innings. He extended the best stretch by a Pirates pitcher since Doug Drabek won six in a row during his NL Cy Young Award-winning season. Casey...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cleveland Indians – Game 63

First it’s with a heavy heart I acknowledge that apparently Root Sports has parted ways with Lacee Collins.  She got hit pretty hard, often on this blog, but my god did Pittsburgh fans eat her alive.  Hopefully she lands on her feet or heels or sneakers or whatever her preferred choice in footwear may be. Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cleveland Indians – Game 64

I know blowouts suck, but losses like last night’s really frustrate me.  Failing to capitalize on huge opportunities seems like it is this teams calling card.   First Pitch:  4:05 PM EST Where To Watch:  Root Sports, MLB.TV, STO   Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP (28) Talk about a guy whose record is absolutely blowing away his actual [...]
