Jimenez (13-9) gave up one run and five hits in 6 2-3 innings for the Indians, who became the first team to sweep seven four-game series in one regular season since the 1943 St. Louis Cardinals. After the final out, Cleveland players mobbed each other on the diamond in a jubilant celebration. Scott Diamond (6-13) gave up four runs - two earned - and seven hits for the Twins (66-96). Carlos Santana and Yan Gomes also drove in runs for the Indians, who entered the g...

Ubaldo Jimenez's Comeback Gives Hope to Cleveland

In 2010 Ubaldo Jimenez made his name in the baseball world with a breakout season. Even more surprising, he was a dominant pitcher on the often pitching-troubled Colorado Rockies.  He was an All-Star, finishing third in NL Cy Young voting, and even picked up a few MVP votes. The four-year, $10 million (before his options were exercised) deal the Rockies signed their young pitcher...

Forget the tiebreaker scenarios and hopscotching across the country just in order to play one win-or-go-home wild-card game. The Indians by beating the Twins on Sunday 5-1 behind 13 strikeouts by Ubaldo Jimenez and Nick Swisher's early-strike home run have earned two days off before playing that wild card game Wednesday night at Progressive Field at 8:07 p.m. The Indians who...

Cleveland Indians Ubaldo Jimenez’ Turnaround in 2013

I previously wrote about how Corey Kluber has been a big key to the Cleveland Indians’ turnaround 2013 season. Similarly important has been the second-half performance of Ubaldo Jimenez.  The Indians hurler has the lowest second-half ERA in the AL. The big righthander was acquired from the Colorado Rockies in 2011 in a deadline deal in which the Indians gave up prospect Drew...

Ubaldo to start Sunday, regardless of circumstances

Earlier in the week, speculation from Fox Sports’s Ken Rosenthal was that Ubaldo Jimenez would not start on Sunday in the regular season finale should the Indians clinch a playoff berth today. The idea being that the Indians would take their chances in a worst-case scenario with Ubaldo on the road and use a bullpen committee approach on Sunday. That does not appear to be the case...

WE DID IT!

For weeks, when implosion after implosion happened……When the bats couldn’t be colder if they were naked in Alaska….When the bullpen went into their slide….when Corey Kluber got hurt….when Detroit treated them like their personal pinata….when Justin Masterson got hurt….I tried to tell you all, wait until September. Just wait. Big things will happen. Nick Swisher, one...
