On Thursday evening the Cleveland Indians claimed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off waivers from Philadelphia. To make room on the club's 40-man roster the Indians esiganted first baseman Mike McDade for assignment. Carrera, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Phillies this season and went 1-for-13 in limited time. He was in Major League camp with the Indians this spring (.279, 12-for-43, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 11 SB) before being designated for assignment on March 25 and claimed off waivers by Philadelphia on April 2.  He fills the spot on the active 25-man roster made when right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer was optioned to Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day. With outfielder Michael Bourn still out mending his finger injury and outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher nursing a sore shoulder, the Indians needed a temporary fill in for the outfield and Carrera fits that role nicely. Bourn is expected to go on a minor league rehab assignment sometime next week and may still be at least a we...

Wahoo Walkoff! Stubbs Makes It Five Straight For Tribe

With high-priced free agents Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher on the shelf for the last couple weeks and last few days respectively, one would think that Progressive Field was burning. Instead, that smoke you’re seeing is coming from the Tribe bats, who have stayed warm without their leadoff and cleanup hitters. Actually, they’ve heated up and diversified the contributions. Last...

Swisher out of Indians' lineup again

Cleveland Indians first baseman Nick Swisher is out of the lineup for the second straight game because of a sore left shoulder. Swisher, who didn't play Tuesday night against Philadelphia, started Cleveland's first 23 games but is in a 4-for-28 slump that has dropped his batting average to .265. The switch-hitter has two homers and nine RBIs. Cleveland manager Terry Francona...

McClure continues the process of molding his potential

The Cleveland Indians have placed a stronger focus in recent years to draft more athletes that can play in the middle of the diamond. One such example of this is the selection of outfielder D’Vone McClure in the 4th round of last year’s draft. At 19-years of age and 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, he has the body, size, and athleticism that make scouts drool over his potential. Oh yeah...

Indians recall Bauer to start against Phillies

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians have recalled right-hander Trevor Bauer from Triple-A Columbus to start Wednesday night's game against Philadelphia. Bauer, the No. 3 pick in the 2011 draft by Arizona, will be making his second start of the season. He walked seven and allowed three runs in five innings in a loss to Tampa Bay on April 6. Bauer was 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in...

Slumping Indians first baseman Nick Swisher will miss the next few games because of a sore left shoulder. Orbiting Cleveland: Analyzing the four-game win streak

When you're hot, you're hot. And right now, the Cleveland Indians are on fire. As you know, these last four games have been fun — very fun. Just take a look at these numbers: 10, 9, 14, 6 — the number of runs the Indians have scored in each of their past four ball games. 14, 14, 17, 14 — the number of hits the Indians have tallied in each of their past ball games....

CSN Report: Phillies Continue to Puruse Stanton

According to Jim Salisbury of, the Phillies are still at it. They’ve made a few calls to Miami in an attempt to nab Giancarlo Stanton and will continue to pursue the 23-year-old rightfielder. Now, this should come as no surprise. Twenty-nine other teams should be doing the same thing, as he’s clearly the best young power hitter in baseball, when healthy. Ruben Amaro...

Mudcats stumble in extras, lose 4-3

ZEBULON- The Carolina Mudcats and Frederick Keys decided nine innings wasn’t enough time to decide a winner so they went extra innings. Unfortunately, the Mudcats were on the short end of a 4-3 loss to the Keys in 11 innings on Friday night at Five County Stadium. After both teams went scoreless since the sixth inning, the Keys finally broke through in the eleventh inning with...

Its time for the Phillies to move Howard out of the cleanup spot

What we learned from the two game series with the Cleveland Indians, the Phillies are far from a contender. In game one the Phillies lost by the long ball and if you were a believer that Roy Halladay was back in from you learned after a mere inning he is not. Giving up two home runs in the first, the Indian’s made Halladay’s night a quick one in a rout. The second game the opposite...
