The Cleveland Indians acquired pitching, the Cincinnati Reds upgraded their outfield, and the Arizona Diamondbacks got a shortstop in a three-team trade Tuesday night. Cleveland emerged with right-handers Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw as well as outfielder Drew Stubbs. Cincinnati got outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, infielder Jason Donald and cash, while Arizona emerged with shortstop Didi Gregorius, infielder Lars Anderson and left-hander Tony Sipp. Multiple media reports indicated that the Diamondbacks sought Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, but they instead got Gregorius to fill the position. Gregorius, 22, made his major league debut with the Reds in September, and he went 6-for-20 (.300) in eight major league games. In 129 games between Double-A and Triple-A this year, he hit .265 with a .324 on-base percentage, seven homers and 54 RBI. Choo, 30, is the key piece for the Reds, who likely will make him their center fielder and leadoff man. His 2012 stats with Indi...

Newest Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer in videos

Trevor Bauer is all the talk all over Twitter, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much about him before yesterday. Well, there’s a lot of quirks about the Indians’ newest pitcher. First of all, he has a unique set of warm-up rituals to get ready to play the game. It includes a long toss session that can range from 340 to 400 foot throws. Just watch the video. Your browser...

Indians GM happy with deal, but still seeks more

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti is not done trying to improve a team that lost 94 games last season. Antonetti said Wednesday that a three-team deal with Cincinnati and Arizona that brought outfielder Drew Stubbs and three right-handers to Cleveland makes the Indians better, but is not enough. The Indians need at least one corner outfielder after dealing right-fielder Shin...

Antonetti Pulls Off A Coup For Choo

To quote the great Nick Gilbert…. “What’s Not To Love?” I have killed Chris Antonetti time and time again for his head scratching roster decisions, but none of those will be mentioned in this piece. I am here to stand up, clap, and give the much maligned Tribe GM his proper due. Throughout this offseason, the Indians have been in the center of activity in baseball’s hot...

While We’re Waiting… The IDEA of Trevor Bauer

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “The idea of Trevor Bauer is an enticing one. Not just the potential of Trevor Bauer to turn his three plus pitches into swinging strikes at the big league level, the idea...

Tampa Bay Rays closing in on Roberto Hernandez / Fausto Carmona

After seven seasons with the Indians, it appears that Roberto Hernandez (Carmona) will not be back again. After a wild off-season that saw his true identity revealed, and a mostly down 2012 when he finally did appear in some games, Hernandez is reportedly close to signing with the Tampa Bay Rays. #Rays close to signing RHP Roberto Hernandez (former Fausto Carmona). Depth for rotation...

Tribe Adds Reynolds, But Can’t Stop Here

The Indians left baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville last week empty handed, but they were about as active as any team there. Many were disappointed by the Tribe’s closing abilities, but one thing you can say – they were far from dormant. For so many years, the Winter Meetings meant little to the apathetic fan base. Mark Shapiro and Chris Antonetti were there, essentially...

Reds acquire Shin-Soo Choo from the Indians

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians completed a deal that will send outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds. He adds that Jason Donald is also headed to Cincinnati. Earlier today, we learned that the teams were discussing a trade involving the Choo. The outfielder, who is a free-agent after the season, hit .283/.373/.441 with 16 home runs...

Indians Bet on Trevor Bauer

This post isn’t so much a trade analysis of last night’s three team trade between the Reds, Indians, and Diamondbacks, as that post wouldn’t be that interesting – the Indians got a ridiculously great value for one year of Shin-Soo Choo, the Reds turned a prospect they didn’t need into one year of a nice outfielder, and the Diamondbacks turned a pitcher they didn’t want...

How was your weekend? I bet you ordered a pizza, forced yourself to watch the Army-Navy game on Saturday, got drunk and struck out at the bar. Enter Irina Shayk. She had to remind the world how much better her life is than ours and spent Friday and Saturday catching some rays in Miami Beach. Who’s got it better than Irina? Indians trade Shin-Soo Choo to Reds

The Cleveland Indians have traded outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and infielder-outfielder Jason Donald to the Cincinnati Reds for outfielder Drew Stubbs. The deal came Tuesday night. The Indians are working on other deals, including one that could include shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera. Choo, who has been Cleveland's primary right fielder for the Indians since 2006, will likely play...

Choo On This Big Red Trade

Shin-Soo Choo makes the Reds lineup look pretty. No more will they have to search for a lead-off hitter with a solid OBP. I do feel bad for the guy in charge of explaining to Dusty why Choo's OBP should be coveted and they shouldn't mourn the loss of Stubbs. "Oh bee pees are fine and dandy...If you're a dandy. I play a man's game where hitters swing the bat...

Reds and Indians discussing Shin-Soo Choo trade

The Reds and Indians are discussing a trade that would send outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and another piece to the Reds for Drew Stubbs and shortstop Didi Gregorius , Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports. The Reds plan to use Choo in center field and as their leadoff man, but he has little experience in center field as he has logged only 10 games there. Choo who is a free-agent after the...

Shin-Soo Choo a Nice Addition to Reds, But Indians Poised to Be Big Winners of Three-Way Trade

Terry Francona is going to enjoy his time in Cleveland if general manager Chris Antonetti keeps fleecing teams like he did on Tuesday. The Indians, Diamondbacks and Reds completed a big, three-way trade that should have Cleveland fans ecstatic, Cincinnati fans pleased and Arizona fans left wondering what exactly just happened. The Tribe received a potential ace in Trevor Bauer, the...
