CLEVELAND (AP) -- A.J. Burnett became the first Pittsburgh pitcher since 1990 to win six straight starts and Pedro Alvarez homered twice as the Pirates beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2 Saturday. Burnett (7-2) gave up two runs over 6 2-3 innings. He extended the best stretch by a Pirates pitcher since Doug Drabek won six in a row during his NL Cy Young Award-winning season. Casey McGehee homered and drove in four runs and Alvarez had three RBIs as the Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak. McGehee broke a 2-all tie with a two-run homer off Ubaldo Jimenez (6-5) in the sixth. Cleveland's Michael Brantley went 0 for 3 with a walk, halting the majors' longest hitting streak this season at 22 games. The last Pirates pitcher to win six straight decisions was rookie Zach Duke in 2005. He did it over eight starts to open his career 6-0. Burnett had not been successful at Progressive Field until handing the Indians their fourth loss in five games. He came in 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA...

Pirates’ 2B Neil Walker Had Special Fan In The Stands Yesterday

Pirates second baseman Neil Walker was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in Pittsburgh and now bats second for his hometown team. In fact, the guy still lived with his parents while playing with the Pirates during the 2010 season. So why would anyone be surprised by his lunch lady driving to Cleveland for a Father’s Day game? (via @GhostHunterss) In NBA news, this was written before...

Gerrit Cole, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 draft and the best of those prospects, was promoted to Double-A Altoona just two months into his first professional season. He pretty much left the Pirates no choice, going 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA, 69 strikeouts and 21 walks in 67 innings...

Pedro Alvarez homers twice (again) in 9-5 win over Tribe

Final: Pirates 9, Indians 5 WP: Tony Watson (4-0, 3.74 ERA) LP: Jeanmar Gomez (4-6, 4.95 ERA) Starter Brad Lincoln didn’t have his best stuff, yet again, as he gave up four runs over just 3 1/3 innings. Thankfully, Asdrubal Cabrera made not one, not two, but three errors that led to the Pirates scoring way more than the four unearned runs in the box score. Down 2-0 in the 4th inning...

Back on track

Reds 12 Indians 5: Swept In Cincinnati By The Brandon Phillips Show

Team President Mark Shapiro was a highly thought of and for the most part successful General Manager with the Indians before being bumped up stairs. He fleeced the Mariners in getting Asdrubal Cabrera and Shin-Soo Choo in separate deals for the “Benuardo” first base platoon (Ben Broussard and Eduardo Perez). He got Carlos Santana for Casey Blake and Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz...
