Outfielder Johnny Damon and right-handed pitcher Jeremy Accardo were released Thursday by the Indians, who were unable to deal the veterans after designating them for assignment last week. Damon hit .222 in 64 games with Cleveland after signing April 17. The 38-year-old is in his 17th season in the majors. He played 56 games in left field and was also used as designated hitter with the Indians. He has a .284 career batting average with 2,769 hits, 408 steals and 1,139 RBIs. Accardo went 0-0 with a 4.58 ERA in 26 relief appearances for the Indians this season.
