On Sunday the Cleveland Indians announced their opening day roster. In order to get to the final 25-man roster and make room on the 40-man roster, the Indians announced the following transactions: Right-handed pitcher Frank Herrmann - who had right elbow surgery on March 13th - was placed on the 15-day disabled list. They re-assigned right-handed pitcher Matt Capps, right-handed pitcher Jerry Gil, right-handed pitcher Diasuke Matsuzaka, catcher Omir Santos, infielder Luis Hernandez, and outfielder Matt Carson to the Triple-A Columbus roster. They selected the contract of infielder Ryan Raburn and placed him on the 40-man and 25-man roster. They designated left-handed pitcher David Huff for assignment, and now have ten days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.   With the moves, the 25-man roster is set and the 40-man roster is at 39 players. Here are the players on the 25-man roster (note, 1B/DH Jason Giambi is on the 15-day disabled list to open the season): Pitchers (...

Ranking the 2013 Cleveland Indians’ Roster

Now that the baseball season is upon us, it is time once again to undertake the task of ranking the Cleveland Indians' 25-man roster. Just like last year, I will do this five times throughout the season, revisiting the rankings to see who has risen, who has fallen, and what new players are crashing the party. This year's roster is particularly interesting after an offseason...

With opening day almost upon us, it’s time to finish the 2013 Cleveland Indians Key Players series. This article will focus on starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. When I discussed Justin Masterson back in early February, I labeled him as quite possibly the most important player on the entire team. The fact is, Ubaldo Jimenez is right there with him. With question marks surrounding...

Goodbye Goodyear. Hello Cleveland. The Cleveland Indians officially completed Spring Training with a strong 9-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. The win ensured that the Indians finished the spring season with a winning record, and the Tribe left Goodyear with a 17-16-2 record. Given the team’s many additions this offseason, there definitely seemed to be a different...

Flash Forward: A look ahead at the Indians 2013 season

The esteemed Paul Cousineau of The Diatribe penned my favorite Tribe post every year.  Usually occurring right before Opening Day, Paul wrote a lengthy post chronicling the future season, predicting in vivid detail how he felt the Indians would fare that year; since Paul has resigned his position as chief scribe for The Diatribe these posts have left the internet landscape. Well...

Opening Day: Pregame

The Indians open up the 2013 season in a dome in chilly Toronto as a high of 35º and a possibility of snow is expected. The Tribe will be throwing out a brand new lineup, featuring at least four players who have never taken an official at bat as a member of the Cleveland Indians. As a whole, it is the strongest lineup on paper that the Indians have fielded in years and a whole...

As with every season there is always some excitement that comes with the first game of the season. That enthusiasm can quickly dissipate a few days or weeks into the season, but nonetheless, at least for one day at the start of the season optimism is at its' height. This season...
