The Miami Marlins dropped Saturday’s game to the Cleveland Indians by a final score of 2-0 to even the interleague series up.    Miami only managed three hits while being shut out and it felt like a lot more than a two run deficit due to the sluggish offense.    With the loss, the Marlins have slipped back to only two games over .500 and remain in a tie for third place in the National League East.

Anibal Sanchez deserved a better fate after throwing seven innings of two run ball but due to the lack of offense, he was tagged with his second loss of the season.    Sanchez struck out four while walking two and allowing seven hits.     Edward Mujica pitched a perfect eighth inning to give the Marlins a chance in the ninth.

The three hits collected by Miami were all singles, one each coming from Bryan Petersen, Omar Infante and Hanley Ramirez.   Petersen started in center field in place of Emilio Bonifacio and is expected to continue doing so over at least the next few games.   Bonifacio has a sprained thumb and may possibly land on the disabled list after being examined in Miami.   Gaby Sanchez’s season long struggles continued as his average fell to .197 with an 0-3 day.

Sunday will be the rubber match in the series as the Marlins try to avoid losing their first series in May.    The scheduled starters are Josh Johnson and Derek Lowe.
