The Cleveland Indians embark on a nine-game road trip brimming with confidence after beating one of baseball's top pitchers to inch closer to the AL Central lead. The Minnesota Twins are well out of the playoff picture and return home in a state of disarray. The Indians look to build on an encouraging series and win for the fourth time in five games in Friday night's series opener with the sputtering Twins. Things were looking bleak for Cleveland (50-49) on Thursday, trailing Justin Verlander and Detroit 3-1 going into the seventh inning. The momentum shifted quickly when Carlos Santana and Travis Hafner tied it at 3 by homering on the first two pitches of the inning, and the Indians scored four times in the seventh off the reigning AL MVP to win 5-3.
