Four days after being released by the Detroit Tigers, Brandon Inge has found a new home.

The veteran infielder, who turns 35 in May, signed on Monday with the Oakland A's. The team cleared a roster spot by designating Luke Hughes for assignment.

Inge was released by the Tigers after hitting .100 with a home run and two RBI in nine games. It marked the end of more than a decade in Detroit, where Inge made his major league debut in 2001. In 1408 games with the Tigers, Inge hit .234 with 140 home runs and 589 RBI. An All-Star in 2009, he hit .273 with a home run and four RBI during the Tigers' run to the 2006 World Series.

Hughes has hit .200 with two RBI and a stolen base in four games since being claimed off waivers from the Twins on April 22. He played 102 games for Minnesota, including 96 last year, when he hit .223 with seven home runs and 30 RBI.

The A's (11-12, second in AL West) are in Boston for a Monday night clash with the Red Sox (10-11, fifth in AL East). Game time is 7:10 p.m. ET.
