Found May 14, 2013 on Redlegs Review:
The injury bug has certainly bitten the Reds in 2013. Cincinnati currently has five major league players on its disabled list in the likes of Ryan Ludwick, Johnny Cueto, Manny Parra, Chris Heisey, and Nick Masset. The loss of Ludwick was a particularly untimely one as his crippling injury came in the very first game of the season. However, the Reds have marched on without the services of their wounded anyway. And they are definitely not alone. Every other team in the league has been forced to deal with injuries to key players, too. This got the folks at the New York Times wondering, how much does it cost teams to pay their injured players? For the Reds, that figure stands to be about $3,394 per hour, which equates to $81,456 per day, and approximately 13.5% of the team's total payroll. Whoa. As bad as that may seem, it pales in comparison to some other clubs around baseball. For example, the New York Yankees have 11 players on the disabled list, which comprises 4...

In brief: Cueto to have 2nd rehab start

Last Game Donald Lutz got his first big league home run with some style yesterday. His 3-run dinger in the second inning put the Reds on the path for a 1-5 win and a series sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. The win gave the Reds a 4-2 homestand and puts their record at 22-16. Even that is only good enough for second place in the NLC, though, where the Cardinals have 1 more win and...

Reds OF Chris Heisey suffers setback

The Cincinnati Reds were hoping to have outfielder Chris Heisey back from injury in the not too distant future, as he had been spending time on a minor league rehab assignment. However, it looks like this return will be pushed back, as Heisey recently re-strained his hamstring, according to John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Heisey re-strained his hamstring. He's off...

Reds' Johnny Queto says he "feels ready" to return

Johnny Cueto is in the midst of a rehab assignment following a strained lat muscle he suffered a month ago.  The injury was thought to be minor originally, but the Cincinnati Reds excersied caution and eventually placed Cueto on the disabled list.  After some bullpen sessions, a set back here and there, and a couple minor league rehab starts, Cueto feels ready to make his big...

Votto is a .355 hitter in 38 career meetings with the Marlins, including .440 with...

Baker defends Cueto after high pitch

Reds manager Dusty Baker says he doesn't understand why Cubs pitcher Matt Garza was incensed by Johnny Cueto's pitch high over David DeJesus' head. Both dugouts were warned after the play in the sixth inning Sunday of the Cubs' 5-4, 10-inning win...

Why I am a Reds Fan

Why I am a Reds Fan A guy can have two favorite Major League teams, right? Especially if one is in the American League (see Why I am an Orioles Fan) and the other in the National League… right? My hometown, Asheville, North Carolina was a great place to grow up as a kid in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Some of my first (and most beloved) memories of sports took place in historic...
