Injury A Major Concern For Yankees

Posted March 30, 2009 on nyk652's Blog:

The yankees have the best pitching in the MLB. They have one of the greatest leaders in the MLB in Derek Jeter. They have the young talent (Sabathia, Gardner, Cano) and the skilled veterans (Burnett, Pettite, Damon, Jeter). In other words, the New York Yankees should be a major contender for the World Series this year.

The only the thing that might scare Yankee fans a little is the potential for injuries. For starters, Matsui and Posada are aging and have very shaky medical records, both had injuries last year. Jeter and Rodriguez are both over 30 and showed signs of wear and tear last year, both had major injuries. Burnett has always been battling injuries throughout his career, and if there was one concern about Sabbathia this off-season, it was indeed his weight.

Rodriguez is already out untill the all-star break and Matsui will not play the field untill then, if at all this season. Not to metntion Mariano Rivera is comming off of shoulder surgery, and this will be Johnnie Damon's 14th pro season. Joba Chamberlain may be a great pitcher, but his body broke down on him after only a coupple starts last year. Pettite almost retired, and although he had a decent 2008 season, he is aging heavily.

Yes, the yankees are set to win a championship, if they can stay healthy.
