FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. On Monday, July 8, 2013, FOX Sports Florida will premiere the next episode of "Inside the Marlins," upon conclusion of the Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves game.
Hosted by Frank Forte, "Inside the Marlins"highlights the career of Hitting Coach Tino Martinez. Fans will get an exclusive look into Martinezs childhood in Tampa, FL. The star of both Tampa Jefferson High and the University of Tampa, Martinez made first round draft pick for the Seattle Mariners in 1988. After his Major League debut in 1990, Martinez spent 16 seasons in the big leagues. Six of these years were spent with the New York Yankees, where he was a key contributor to four World Series Championships. Martinez began his career with the Marlins coaching staff in the 2013 season.
"Inside the Marlins" will feature interviews from Martinez, his brothers Rene, Jr. and Tony, Jefferson High coach Pop Cuesta, Mariner and Yankee teammate Luis Sojo, Cardinals and Yankee teammate Joe Girardi, and Cardinal manager Mike Matheny, who played with Martinez for 2 seasons in St. Louis. Additionally, the episode will give fans a behind-the-scenes view into Martinezs coaching style, as he wore a microphone for a Marlins pregame batting practice.
