When he was with the Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie was the ace of the staff. He didn’t have ace stuff but on that staff it’s what he was. What’s interesting though is he’s gone to a slightly more competitive team in the Colorado Rockies and has a legitimate chance at becoming that teams ace. I never thought this was a possibility especially with Jhoulys Chacin coming off back to back strong seasons but wow was I wrong. And there’s two reasons for this. Guthrie has really impressed his new boss, general manager Dan O’Dowd while Chacin has royally pissed off his boss. First, the good stuff. Guthrie has come to Colorado with an attitude of wanting to work hard and be a winner. That’s exactly what the new boss wants to hear right? Jeremy Guthrie has designs on starting opening day for the Rockies. No one is prepared to declare him the ace, but O’Dowd came away impressed after talking extensively with the right-hander...

DOs And DON’Ts: Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have been very active this offseason, tinkering with a roster that, as a whole, underachieved in 2011 despite having two of the game's best offensive players as well as a bunch of very useful fantasy baseball options.

The Orioles Rebuilding Plan Keeps Going and Going...

With the trade of Jeremy Guthrie this week, it looks like the Orioles long-term project of rebuilding the organization is one with no end in sight. As Spring Training opens up in a little more than a week and it’s obvious the team needs - a) pitching, pitching, and more pitching; plus, another big bat. It looks as if there will be a lot of pitchers in camp, and except for...

Did The Baltimore Orioles Make The Right Move Trading Jeremy Guthrie?

As Dan S pointed out a few days ago, the Baltimore Orioles were finally able to trade their #1 starter, Jeremy Guthrie. For a team that was looking to build towards the future, it seems like an odd move to trade Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies for reliever Matt Lindstrom and starter Jason Hammel. So the question is, was it a worthwhile trade for the O’s? Guthrie’s acquisition...

DENVER — Any doubt how much the Rockies’ value Matt Belisle was erased over the last few days. Colorado signed the right-handed reliever two a new contract and then traded co-setupman Matt Lindstrom to the Orioles in the Jeremy Guthrie deal. The Denver Post has obtained Belisle’s contract, which is similar to the extension given Rafael Betancourt. Belisle will make...

Rockies’ age-old question on opening day

DENVER — The Rockies got old fast this offseason. They have become the anti-Hollywood. While society is obsessed with staying young, the Rockies’ projected opening day lineup figures to jump from 28.4 to 32.4 years old. If the players are better, it doesn’t matter if they are older. But the figure paints a clear picture of the Rockies’ striking transformation...

Is Adam Jones the next Oriole to be traded?

The Orioles traded Jeremy Guthrie to the Rockies on Monday, the same day his arbitration hearing was scheduled to be heard.  Could CF Adam Jones be the next Oriole to be sent packing from Charm City?  Jones is two years from free agency and would seem to be a prime building block for a the long downtrodden Orioles.  Jones is still just 26 and has already been an All Star and Gold...
