How do you go from rising star to under-the-radar
veteran without a single dramatic drop-off to explain the fallout? In my
opinion it’s unprecedented and arguably worse than a 'crash and burn' scenario.
However, I could be asking the wrong question: Instead of “how” maybe I
should be asking “who?”
"who" is exactly where the problem lies and the “who”, in this case,
is Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury catapulted onto the scene in 2008 during
his rookie year captivated management and players with his talent and his
performance in the batter's box as well as on the field. Now fast forward to
the spring of 2013 and Ellsbury is all but a ghost within the Red Sox
organization, and I'm left to wonder, why?
the span of five years a rising star within the organization is
on the cusp of Red Sox purgatory and for what reason? Ellsbury may have been
unfairly labeled injury prone and is entering the final year of his contract
(is agent is Scott Boris so, yea, ...

New Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford continues to comment on his time with the Red Sox, saying "That media was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life."
The Red Sox hoped David Ortiz would wake up today and pass his medical staff's running exam. While he did some light jogging, Ortiz mentioned that he still felt some pain associated with his lower leg. How did he feel?
I don’t think I can play like that.If it gets better and it doesn’t bother me that much, yes, I’ll probably be able to deal with it.
The next logical question...
Mike Carp is with the Red Sox, but his trade counterpart has yet to be named for the Mariners.
Now, it appears likely that Carp will end up having been traded for cash considerations, according to the Providence Journal’s Brian MacPherson. Additionally, Boston and Seattle are aiming to complete the trade by the end of March.
In the original deal, Carp was acquired by the Sox in...
Welcome to Boston Shane Victorino, welcome to the media market that will make you feel smaller than an ant, welcome to a city with huge expectations. Newcomer to the Red Sox this year is 9 year MLB veteran Shane Victorino will be expected to be the patroller of right field in Fenway for the next 3 years. To warn everyone I am a huge fan of Victorino, I graduated from the same high...
Both Drake Britton and the Red Sox understand the severity of the left-hander’s recent DUI arrest. And while neither side has commented much on the matter, it’s obvious Britton feels a great deal of regret.
“I’m extremely remorseful,” Britton said. “It’s an internal matter that’s going on right now. I’m sorry for the negativity that I brought, but that’s about...
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Mike Napoli hit a three-run homer for Boston, Clay Buchholz overcame leg soreness to pitch three scoreless innings and the Red Sox beat a split squad of Minnesota Twins 12-5 on Thursday.
Buchholz, who aggravated a hamstring muscle on the first day of spring training, struck out four with two hits and no walks in his second preseason start. Reliever Daniel...
There is one reason that the Red Sox have struggled mightily since September 2011: pitching. This pitching staff, from the starting rotation to the bullpen, will be responsible for Boston's playoff chances; fortunately they are showing encouraging signs thus far under new pitching coach Juan Nieves.
Three numbers to be excited about:
2.56: Boston's five starters have...
The Red Sox’ bullpen is expected to be one of the team’s strengths this season, but don’t say the Sox have too many arms down there.
Craig Breslow, who arrived at spring training with weakness in his left shoulder, is likely to start the season on the disabled list, according to manager John Farrell.
Breslow recently started throwing on flat ground, but he hasn’t thrown off...
As I wrote about last week, Daniel Bard has had a rough 12 months. Even the start to his 2013 has been a bumpy ride, with Bard being pulled from live games until he could show consistency in his mechanics. All of that changed on Thursday, when Bard was given the okay to pitch an inning versus the Twins. Pitching for only the second time this year, Bard was impressive on Thursday...
Check out this gem from the World Baseball Classic. What we saw here was a massive fight ignighted after a series of plays including a hard slide at second base, collision at home plate, and a bunt single to start the ninth inning when Team Canada was up 9-3. Our...
