Lotzkar pitching for Pensacola
There's a really good Canadian-born player on the Cincinnati Reds roster in Joey Votto, but the organization also boasts a pretty good Canadian-born prospect in the minor league ranks as well. His name is Kyle Lotzkar and he was recently mentioned in Jim Bowden's piece that featured a list of Futures Game players who could be used as trade bait. Here's the excerpt regarding the right-hander from the ESPN Insider post:
4. Kyle Lotzkar RHP The Cincinnati Reds haven’t won a World Series since 1990 and haven’t been to the NLCS since 1995. In a very winnable NL Central and with two wild-card berths, it is likely that the Reds will go for it during this trade deadline. They first made the blockbuster trade for Mat Latos this past offseason, and after signing Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips to long-term deals, the Reds have made it clear they are in it to win right now while still thinking about the team's future.

The folks at BaseballAmerica.com released their Midseason Top 50 Prospects list late last week and one Reds farmhand made the cut. Over the past few days I sat down and watched some games on Milb.tv when Bakersfield was in San Jose. It was a three game series and Billy Hamilton made the most of it. He went 6 for 13 with 4 walks and 1 strikeout in the series.
Hamilton was incredibly patient at the plate in this series. He looked at plenty of strikes, but he swung at maybe 3 pitches outside of the...
Brandon Phillips is a three-time Gold Glove winner, but that doesn't mean he is actually allowed to wear a gold glove on the field. Rawlings, who has the naming rights to the Rawlings Gold Glove award, is suing glove manufacturer Wilson for giving the Reds second baseman a glove painted gold to play with. It has "metallic gold-colored webbing, stitching and lettering,"...

The National League trounced the American League in last night’s All Star Game: final score NL 8, AL 0. Joey Votto continued his 0-for-ASG streak, though the NL has won all of the ASGs he’s been in. Jay Bruce also didn’t get any hits, but caught the last out of the game. Aroldis Chapman only put in 0.1 innings, but he was pitching for Tony LaRussa after all.

The Cincinnati Reds were pleased overall with their first half. They dropped out of first place in the National League Central last week, but at 47-38, they are within a game of the Pittsburgh Pirates and are in position to claim a wild-card playoff berth. "You always want more," manager Dusty Baker said. "We hoped our young guys would mature and improve, and they...
Anybody out there who believes the Pittsburgh Pirates are going to win the National League Central please raise your hands and if you are from the Pittsburgh area, put your hands down.Of course, the Chicago Cubs can be eliminated right now because the Cubs are usually eliminated on Opening Day and are so far out of it right now that they need Mount Palomar to see first place.And...
