Maybe this return from injury is going to stick a little bit better than the last. When Derek Jeter played in his first and only game before today, his first at bat wasn’t incredibly dramatic. He did hit a little dribbler that he legged out for a base hit. Following the game, he went on the DL because of a quad strain. Today, Jeter returned from his second DL stint of the season gave the Yankees fans a thrill, something they are in desperate need of as the season continues to unravel. His first at bat and the first pitch he saw was what we typically expect of the Captain: The guy seems to always give us a moment, doesn’t he? Phil Hughes did his best to ruin it by giving up a 3-run homer, but newly returned Yankee Alfonso Soriano followed that up by giving the Yanks the lead back.
  • Welcome Back Captain...and what a great win today with the newly acquired Alfonso Soriano driving in the winning run in a walk off. All I want to hear now is that the Yankees have traded Phil Hughes away, enough already...this guy is NOT a starting pitcher.
  • Soriano made a difference in 1 out of 3 games, hes batting .217 in July and its not getting any easier for him to get hits in the AL East. Jeter being back is great but he wont continue to bat .400 and will most likley end up getting hurt again seeing how hes 38 years old. The real story from todays game is rookie Wil Myers hitting 2 HR and being a part of every single run TB scored, the rays will win this division, the Yankees wont even be sniffing playoffs in another month.
  • We'll see, like Yogi Berra said, "It Ain't over til it's over". Are you one of those 5 or 6 thousand Rays fans that go to the games? Or are you one of the ones that show up just for the playoffs IF the team makes it...and then says you were there all season? I've seen larger crowds at high school games. I gotta laugh when I hear a Rays fan talk smack because you don't even deserve a team in Tampa the way you disrespect what you've got.

Yankees and Braves Should Consider Reopening Trade Talks

The New York Yankees have already made a big splash at the trade deadline by acquiring the hottest bat in Alfonso Soriano. Soriano’s right-handed bat with pop is something sorely needed in New York, and the Bronx Bombers will need to improve at catcher and third base along with the right-handed side of its lineup even more so if it wants to compete. While New York is not in a desperate...
