And We Have a 2B!
MLBTR reports that the Jays have signed Maicer Izturis (formerly of the Angels) to a 3 year deal worth $10M, with a club option for a 4th year. The reaction in comments I've seen so far seems to be pretty positive about this signing. Just over $3M per year is only a bit more than what the Jays were gonna have to pay Aviles anyways, and Izturis is a pretty similar value to Aviles...
Blue Jays ink Maicer Izturis to three year deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed free agent infielder Maicer Izturis to a three year, $10 million deal, with a club option for a fourth season. The versatile Izturis can play second, short, and third, and will likely settle into one of the middle infield positions with Toronto.
With second baseman Kelly Johnson hitting free agency, the Blue Jays needed to fill a hole there...
Maicer Izturis Finds New Place to be Perfectly Acceptable
Just last season, Maicer Izturis wrapped up a three-year, $10-million contract. On Thursday, Maicer Izturis signed a three-year, $9-million contract. There’s also a fourth-year option — worth $3 million — for one of the very newest Toronto Blue Jays. Maybe that isn’t enough of a hook. Maybe this will make for a better hook.
It’s the first multiyear contract that Anthopoulos...
Haren: 'medical issues' did not doom trade
Dan Haren took exception to a Chicago Sun-Times report that medical issues led to the Cubs pulling out of a trade that would have sent closer Carlos Marmol to the Angels for Haren last Friday.
The Angels subsequently declined Harens 15.5-million option for 2013, buying it out for 3.5 million, and the veteran right-hander who went 12-13 with a 4.33 earned-run average last season...
How screwed are the Angels if they lose Zack Greinke?
Screwed.
Boned.
Dead in the water.
Up a creek.
In deep doo-doo.
Totally f#&ked.
However you want to phrase it, for the Angels, life without Zack Greinke doesn't look particularly appealing. They gave away most of the best parts of their farm system to get him and their entire off-season plan is centered entirely around the Halos bringing him back...
Yankees’ Cashman talking to Zack Greinke’s agent
After getting traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels last season, Zack Greinke posted a 6-2 record with a 3.53 era. Solid number for a backend rotation starter, however, he struggled at times with his command and had trouble keeping the ball low in the strike zone, which led him to give up 11 home runs in less than half a season.
His performance left...

Former Phillies Reliever David Herndon Changed Teams Again
Poor David Herndon. He is being tossed around like a frisbee. The Toronto Blue Jays were the latest team to try to pass Herndon through waivers, and like the Phillies, it did not work. He probably will be passed around again.
It was the New York Yankees this time who claimed Herndon. With Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera floating in free agency, the Yankees had roster space...
Red Sox Considering Hiring Two Hitting Coaches, According to Manager John Farrell
John Farrell thinks the hitting coach position has evolved, and he’s therefore open to having two men to call upon.
Farrell said Wednesday, according to The Boston Globe, that he may opt to go with a hitting coach and an assistant hitting coach, which is a strategy many teams are going with nowadays.
“That would be the preference, to go with two guys,” Farrell reportedly said...
Is Vernon Wells really that big of a problem?
Vernon Wells is a problem for the Angels. That isn't up for debate. He is one of the highest paid players in baseball but performs just above replacement level, and that might be a generous description. No, the question is just how big of a problem Wells is for the Angels, in practical terms.
What we've already heard several times from reporters, columnists and...
