Fox Sports Wisconsin:
MILWAUKEE Another day, another player heading to the disabled list for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The team announced shortly after their 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Friday that shortstop Cesar Izturis will be sent to the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Infielder Edwin Maysonet will return to the Brewers from Triple-A Nashville to take his place.
Since filling in for injured shortstop Alex Gonzalez, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, Izturis has started in 15 games for the Brewers. He was batting .200 with one home run and four RBI in 2012.
Trying to score on a Corey Hart single, Izturis pulled up awkwardly after hitting third base, choosing not to go for home, despite the go signal from third base coach Ed Sedar. Izturis reached for the back of his left leg and immediately left the game after Brewers manager Ron Roenicke came over to check on him.
"It looked like when he hit the bag, I could see him pull up right away," Roenicke said.
Recent signee Cody Ransom, who was designated for assignment by Arizona on Monday, will likely step in and play a majority of the Brewers games at shortstop with Izturis out. In his debut with the Brewers on Friday, as Izturis' replacement, Ransom tallied a hit and a run, while striking out in his second at-bat.
Izturis becomes the latest injury in an onslaught of health issues that have plagued the Brewers all season long. The team has already lost Gonzalez, pitcher Chris Narveson, and first baseman Mat Gamel for the season, while pitcher Marco Estrada, center fielder Carlos Gomez, and now Izturis, have all spent time on the DL.
For Roenicke, the amount of injuries has clearly been a source of frustration.
"It's been crazy," Roenicke said. "(We) can't even enjoy wins."
There was some concern that, after being hit by a pitch against the Diamondbacks, that third baseman Aramis Ramirez could also be injured, as he left the game late in favor of utility infielder Taylor Green. However, Roenicke said that Ramirez's injury -- a knot on his left elbow, as he called it -- is just "day-to-day."

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed shortstop Cesar Izturis on the 15-day disabled list after he pulled his left hamstring running the bases against Arizona on Friday night.
The Brewers made the move right after the 7-1 victory, recalling shortstop Edwin Maysonette from Triple-A Nashville. Maysonette was optioned to Nashville on Wednesday when Milwaukee claimed Cody Ransom off waivers...
Zack Greinke doesn't lose it often. But when he has, the Brewers pitcher has really lost it this season.
In nine starts this season, Greinke has registered a quality start in six of his outings. But on two occasions this season, the ace has crashed and burned on the mound.
Against Chicago on April 12, Greinke lasted just 3-23 innings, allowed eight earned runs and struck out...
MILWAUKEE Next to his locker in the Brewers clubhouse last week, Milwaukee center fielder Nyjer Morgan said what many were thinking when it came to the Brewers' disappointing 18-26 start this season.
It's not early anymore, he admitted. And it's true. With May quickly coming to a close, the Brewers can no longer excuse their slow start by pointing to a calendar.
Brewers starting pitcher Marco Estrada has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his right quad running the bases on Wednesday night against the Giants, the team announced in a statement on Thursday afternoon. Right-handed reliever Mike McClendon will be called up from Triple-A Nashville to replace him.
According to reports citing general manager Doug Melvin, Estrada...
Photo: Matt York/APWe should all know how this goes by now: The Brewers pulled out a rare victory yesterday, but still managed to bleed wins thanks to one of their starters having to go on the DL. This time, it was shortstop Cesar Izturis, who suffered a strained left hamstring and will be out at least two weeks. In his place, Edwin Maysonet was recalled from Nashville.I know a...
Since getting roughed up in his second start of the season, the Milwaukee Brewers' Zack Greinke has been nearly untouchable over the last month-plus.
Rookie Wade Miley has also proved plenty formidable since transitioning to the Arizona Diamondbacks' rotation.
In what sets up as a low-scoring affair, Greinke takes the hill opposite Miley as the Brewers and Diamondbacks...
The award-winning handlebar mustache that formerly graced the upper lip of Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford is apparently no more.
After tweeting a picture of his former facial hair laid out in its original arrangement, with the title "RIP", it appears an era of facial decoration has come to an abrupt close.
The mustachioed Axford was named the Robert Goulet Memorial...
PHOENIX -- Sure, the season is not even a third of the way over. And the bulk of the intradivision games, where the results mean more, have not been played.
Still, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson was pretty clear before Saturdays game.
We have to have a push," he said.
The D-backs' first shove followed quickly, a resilient 8-5 win over the Brewers in which they overcame...
Opponents have been making themselves at home at Arizona's Chase Field all season.
The Milwaukee Brewers have been doing that for years, but are encountering some resistance this weekend.
The Diamondbacks try to build on an encouraging win and take a rare series from the Brewers in the desert in Sunday's finale.
Arizona (21-26) started the season in impressive fashion...

PHOENIX (AP) -- Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart homered and Yovani Gallardo maintained his mastery of Arizona on Friday night in the Milwaukee Brewers' 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.
Gallardo (3-4) held the Diamondbacks to one run and five hits through 7 1-3 innings to improve to 6-0 in six career starts against Arizona. That doesn't count a victory over the...
