The Angels placed IF Maicer Izturis on the DL with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, which was aggravated while diving for a ball against the Red Sox. He was examined by team orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday, and the team is still waiting for the results of the MRI. His shoulder already seems to be feeling better, and he may start throwing again this coming weekend. So far this season Izturis has a .256/.362/.333 slash line in 47 PA while playing 3B, 2B, and SS for the Angels.

The team also sent right-hander Brian Stokes to the DL with shoulder fatigue, recalling right-hander Bobby Cassevah from Triple-A Salt Lake to take his place. Stokes is expected to be able to return to the team once he’s eligible to come off the DL. Stokes is sporting a 7.31 ERA with three HR given up in 16.0 IP, so I’m assuming the shoulder fatigue is due to the pace at which he was giving up runs to the other team. Maybe a break will do him some good.

Lastly, right-hander Matt Palmer was sent to the DL retroactive to Friday, after rescinding his option to Triple-A Salt Lake. He’s listed as having an acute strain in his right shoulder. No word on when he’ll be ready to come off the DL. Palmer has a 6.26 ERA in 26.0 IP, including one start against Oakland back on April 9th. I’m guessing Palmer will end up back in Salt Lake after coming off the DL, unless he’s needed to replace someone else that ends up injured.
