J.A. Happ has been through a lot this season. Facing the team that made his year so tough, he went out a winner.
Happ won for the first time in four starts, Ryan Goins and Kevin Pillar hit two-run homers and the Blue Jays beat Tampa Bay 7-2 Saturday, dropping the Rays into a tie with Texas for the second AL wild-card berth.
Happ spent almost three months on the disabled list after he was hit on the head by a line drive off the bat of Tampa Bay's Desmond Jennings on May 7. Happ also injured his right knee when he fell to the ground in pain, requiring a lengthy rehabilitation.
''It's been a long, tough year for him,'' Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Happ. ''Overall it's a great way to finish for him. He can go into the offseason feeling confident and healthy.''
Happ (5-7) worked a season-high 7 1-3 innings, allowing one run and five hits to win for the first time since Sept. 7 at Minnesota.
''It feels really good,'...

Toronto Blue Jays RHP RA Dickey has completed his first season as a starting pitcher in Canada. Even though he has plenty of experience pitching in the American League in his days in Texas, Minnesota and Seattle, this was his first AL season after redefining himself as a knuckleball pitcher. If the question was openly asked, “RA Dickey’s first season in Toronto, was it a success...

The Tampa Bay Rays are the club always regarded as the team that does everything on the cheap. The smallest payroll, the smallest following, the smallest margin of error during the regular season. Tampa has once again managed to stretch the 162 game regular season into just another game, and perhaps more. The Rays lost their control over homefield advantage over the wildcard playoff...

The way the Tampa Bay Rays have owned the Blue Jays over the past six seasons who would have guessed that Toronto would be the team to throw a wrench in their playoff plans?
Since the beginning of the 2008 season until the start of this final three game series of the 2013 season the Rays had won 71 of the 96 meetings between these two AL East rivals.
