Former MLB slugger Jack Clark is making some big-time accusations in the wake of the game’s latest performance-enhancing drug news, and he’s pointing the finger at two of baseball’s biggest stars. Clark, who is now a sports radio talking head in St. Louis, is accusing former Cardinals and current Angels slugger Albert Pujols of taking steroids. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has the story of Clark’s big accusations after he said on alleged on WGNU in St. Louis that Pujols used PEDS. Clark said that during his time as Dodgers hitting coach, he was told by Chris Mihlfeld — who was once Pujols’ personal trainer — that Mihlfeld “shot [Pujols] up.” Clark added that “[Mihlfeld] had told me what he was doing with ‘Poolie’ — threw him batting practice, worked him out, shot him up, all that stuff.” Mihlfeld isn’t a stranger to these sorts of stories, either. He used to train former pitcher Jason Grimley. The ex-MLB hurler eventually admitted he used PEDs. Clark told the Post-Dispatch that when he and Mihlfeld both worked for the Dodgers in 2000 that Mihlfeld asked if Clark wanted to use steroids. “He had told me had done that with Pujols, with steroids, and I really never thought too much about it because steroids were not really on my radar screen at that time.” Clark’s allegations didn’t end there. He also suspects Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander of using PEDs. “Verlander was like Nolan Ryan, he threw 97, 98, 100 miles an hour from the first inning to the ninth inning,” Clark said on the air, according to the Post-Dispatch. “He got that big contract [in March], now he can barely reach 92, 93. What happened to it? He has no arm problems, nothing’s wrong. It’s just the signs are there. “The greed … they juice up, they grab the money and it’s just a free pass to steal is the way I look at it.” Filed under: Headlines, Los Angeles Angels, MLB
