Jake McCarthy Reflects on Home Run in Diamondbacks’ Win Over Orioles
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Diamondbacks, known for their sporadic offensive explosions this season, erupted for nine runs against the Baltimore Orioles, securing a win to conclude the series.

After the game, Jake McCarthy, who hit from the 7th spot, highlighted the strong performance from the bottom of the Arizona order. Eugenio Suarez, McCarthy, and Kevin Newman, batting 6-7-8, accounted for half of the Diamondbacks’ hits in their 9-2 victory over one of the top teams in baseball.

McCarthy played a pivotal role during Arizona’s massive six-run 6th inning, launching a two-run homer with two outs. The Diamondbacks scored all six runs in that inning after two outs had already been recorded.

Jake expressed satisfaction at salvaging at least one win against a formidable team like the Orioles, who are currently tied for the second-best record in baseball. He acknowledged that while the Diamondbacks lost the first two games of the series, clinching the final win made for a positive atmosphere on the flight home. He credited Zac Gallen for pitching six solid innings, setting the stage for the offense to find its rhythm and break out in the later innings

Reflecting on his home run, McCarthy said,” My first couple of at-bats I was getting beat by the heater, so going into that third one he threw me a similar pitch and I just didn’t want to get beat in the same fashion”. He continued with, “It felt good, I don’t do that often so I gotta enjoy it whenver I’m on the bases.”

It was Jake’s 1st home run of the season; he had two last year.

He also shared a personal moment, mentioning he was looking for his mom in the stands as he rounded the bases.

The Diamondbacks will now return home to face the Cincinnati Reds, whom they recently swept earlier in the week. The series begins Monday at 6:40 PM with Jordan Montgomery slated to start.
