Jake Westrook is your early leader for Cy Young.  Ok, that's probably a bit much, considering Mr. Westbrook is 1-1 on the season. But with 15.2 innings pitched and only 1 run given up... it's the truth if it wasn't so stupid to be saying such a thing 2 starts into 2013.   And I get the feeling that we're all like "DUDE. Westbrook kind of doesn't suck!". But is it that simple? I mean, let's get real, Westbrook hasn't sucked, pretty much ever. In fact, he's been pretty good for the Cardinals since his debut in 2010. 2010? This is really his fourth season in St. Louis? Why does it seem like he's pretty much floated under the radar? When's the last time we had a good Westbrook talk at the bar? I don't have the best memory, but I'm having trouble putting together the Jake Westbrook greatest hits list. So I went to YouTube and typed in "Jake Westbrook Great Moment" and THIS came up. The ...

What Is Going On In Chicago?

Jake Westbrook for Cy Young.  Ok. Enough Cardinals talk. Because in comparison to what's going on with the Cubs, well... let's just go to the news: ITEM 1: Cubs prospect attacks visiting dugout with a bat! Oh, the Cubs. At least it's not like this guy is signed for 9 years or 30 million dollars and is a top prospect, right? Ooof. Considering how many...

ST. LOUIS (AP) Jake Westbrook pitched a five-hit shutout and the St. Louis Cardinals backed him with four home runs Wednesday in routing the Cincinnati Reds 10-0. Jon Jay, Carlos Beltran and Matt Adams homered in a span of seven at-bats off Homer Bailey as the Cardinals took two of three from the NL Central champions. Matt Carpenter added a two-run homer on a four-hit day. Adams...

St. Louis Cardinals: Matt Adams should start everyday until he cools off

One day after blasting a pinch-hit home run 453 feet, St. Louis Cardinals' first baseman Matt Adams was at it again on Wednesday afternoon, blasting another two-run bomb into the stands in the St. Louis Cardinals 10-0 trouncing of the Cincinnati Reds. It is safe to say, that right now at this very second, Matt Adams is absolutely on fire and until he cools off, manager Mike...

St. Louis Cardinals will use commemorative baseballs for Stan ‘The Man’ Musial

The MLB does not generally allow commemorative baseballs, but have made an exception for Stan Musial and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Memphis Redbirds all-time opening day starters

Prior to the 1998 season, the St. Louis Cardinals relocated its Triple-A affiliation from its 16-year home in Louisville to Memphis. Exactly 16 years later, the relationship may move to a new level if the rumored acquisition of the financially-strapped club by the parent Cardinals comes to pass. With the 2013 club heading into its second pass through the rotation, opening day starter...

Wainwright looks to keep Brewers' bats cold

(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are riding a winning streak on the strength of dominant starting pitching - and that's without their staff ace even taking the mound. Adam Wainwright will try to help deliver a fourth straight victory for St. Louis on Saturday as he takes the ball against the struggling Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals (6-4) have seen their starters...

Musial's legacy continues to live on in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS On a brisk Friday evening, they stood and honored him again. The No. 6 was cut into the center field grass. His name was printed on the baseballs and scrawled across the silver harmonicas that were given away at the Busch Stadium gates. There was an unveiling of a new plaque on his statue, that towering shrine made of granite and bronze. It's been this way since...

No need for Cardinals to panic if Jason Motte is out for the season

For some MLB teams, losing a closer to injury could be a significant development. The Milwaukee Brewers booted John Axford from that role quickly, before his struggles could seriously damage their chances to contend. The Detroit Tigers didn't name a closer out of spring training, and have spent the first two weeks of the season looking for someone to seize the job.  ...

Cardinals 2, Brewers 0

Rookie Shelby Miller allowed one hit in seven innings, a single by Norichika Aoki to open the game, and the St. Louis Cardinals had just enough to spoil Kyle Lohse's first start as a visitor since 2007 in a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. A near-sellout crowd of 42,528 bundled up in 44-degree chill for the second Stan Musial tribute of the opening homestand...

Rapid React (4/11): Carpenter Laying Wood In April

I can’t express enough how much I like Matt Carpenter (4-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR) for the 2013 season. You have the fact that he has always been a high-average hitter who could also get on base via the walk. He has just enough power (15 HR) and a great lineup where he should be able to be able to reach 80 R and 80 RBI by year’s end. Then there’s the position eligibility. Oh,...

Cardinals vs. Reds: Three Things to Walk With

The Cardinals opened their home season with the usual rolling out of the red carpet with Clydesdales, Hall of Famers and currently conquering heroes, as well as a touching look back at the impact of Stan Musial. However, it also featured a tough match up against their chief division rivals in the Cincinnati Reds. After a late inning implosion cost them game one by an ugly 14-3 tilt...
