James Paxton (36% owned) – Seattle Mariners (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs LAA (Hector Santiago) & vs OAK (Scott Kazmir) Paxton was brilliant against the Angels in his fist start of 2014 allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven shutout innings. He gets the Angels in Week 2 and they will have to adjust because Paxton made them look silly at the plate. In five big league starts, Paxton has four wins, and 30 strikeouts over 31 innings to go along with a 1.16 ERA. I watched every pitch from Paxton against the Angels on Wednesday and the kid touched 98 in the 7th and looked extremely impressive. Buy in to what Paxton is selling!     Hope for the best: Ubaldo Jimenez - Baltimore Orioles (0-1, 6.00 ERA) @ NYY (Hiroki Kuroda) & vs TOR (Mark Buehrle) Jason Vargas (4% owned) - Kansas City Royals (0-0, 1.29 ERA) vs TB (Matt Moore) & @ MIN (Kevin Correia) In his first start as a Royal Vargas allowed only a run over seven innings in Detroit; walking one, fanning six. I love his second start in Week 2 which will come in Minnesota. He gets the Rays in his first outting and in a start last year against Tampa, Vargas went seven scoreless and struck out seven as a member of the Angels. So, there’s that. Scott Kazmir - Oakland Athletics (1-0, 0.00 ERA) @ MIN (Kevin Correia) & @ SEA (James Paxton) Tim Hudson - San Francisco (1-0, 0.00) vs ARI (Trevor Cahill) & vs COL (Jordan Lyles) Kyle Lohse (41% owned) - Milwaukee Brewers (0-1, 3,86 ERA) @ PHI (Kyle Kendrick) & vs PIT (Charlie Morton) Lohse was decent in his first start of 2014, striking out eight Braves. All three runs came via the long ball, but I like his matchups for Week 2. The Phillies scored 14 against the Rangers on opening day, but don’t be fooled. If Lohse can shut down Atlanta he can shut down Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Garion Thorne likes the consistency with Lohse; you know exactly what you’re getting. Charlie Morton - Pittsburgh Pirates (0-0, 0.00) @ CHI (Edwin Jackson) & @ MIL (Kyle Lohse) Mark Buehrle (18% owned) – Toronto Blue Jays (1-0, 0.00) vs HOU (Brett Oberholtzer) & @ BAL (Ubaldo Jimenez) KATHY WILLENS / THE ASSOCIATED PRESS How much stock are we really going to take in Buehrle’s four hit, one walk and 11 K performance against the Rays in Week 1? For me, not much. I do love his matchup against the Astros and Buehrle spun a complete game shutout against Houston last season with nine strikeouts. His second start against the lowly Astros was a win as well. In that game Buehrle went eight strong, strucke out seven, allowing only one run. His start in Baltimore might be a bit rocky, but count on at least a W in Week 2 with close to double-digit strikeouts for the Jays pitcher. Trevor Cahill - Arizona Diamondbacks (0-2, 6.30) @ SF (Tim Hudson) & vs LAD (Dan Haren) Tyson Ross - San Diego Padres (0-1, 5.40 ERA) @ CLE (Corey Kluber) & vs DET (Justin Verlander) – * Scheduled to change Zach McAllister (4% owned)- Cleveland Indians (0-0, 6.75) vs SD (Robbie Erlin) & @ CWS (Jose Quintana) Another Two-Start Pitcher I like this week and hardly owned in Yahoo! leagues at four percent. Don’t count on a ton of strikeouts, but the potential to get two wins are there. The guys at FNTSY Sports Network take a deeper look into what you can expect from McAllister in Week 2 against the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox. Jose Quintana - Chicago White Sox (0-0, 3.00 ERA) @ COL (Franklin Morales) & vs CLE (Zach McAllister) Corey Kluber - Cleveland Indians (0-1, 13.50 ERA) vs SD (Tyson Ross) & @ CWS (Felipe Paulino) Aaron Harang (3% owned) – Atlanta Braves (1-0, 0.00) vs NYM (Bartolo Colon) & vs WAS (Gio Gonzalez) Harang took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Brewers in his first start with the Braves, which shocked us all I think. Harang will have to have a similar outing with Mike Minor set to return soon. He could easily get you a win against the Mets, but I can’t see him getting the best of Gio and the Nats. Bartolo Colon - New York Mets (0-1, 4.50 ERA) vs ATL (Aaron Harang) & @ LAA (C.J. Wilson) Kyle Kendrick - Philadelphia Phillies (0-0, 1.29 ERA) vs MIL (Kyle Lohse) & vs MIA (Nate Eovaldi) Jarred Cosart - Houston Astros (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs LAA (C.J. Wilson) & @ TEX I’m not high on Cosart like many out there. He has two very tough matchups in Week 2. He held the Yankees to four hits over five scoreless innings in his first start while striking out three, but simply put, he has the Angels and Rangers this week.   Risky business: Henderson Alvarez - Miami Marlins (0-1, 9.00 ERA)  @ WSH (Gio Gonzalez) & @ PHI (TBD)   Felix Doubront (5% owned) – Boston Red Sox (1-0, 5.06 ERA) vs TEX (Martin Perez) & @ NYY (Ivan Nova)   Not only is Felix Doubront getting a chance in the Red Sox rotation, he’ll get Two-Starts in Week 2 of the Fantasy Baseball season. He can provide strikeouts if in need. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa) Doubront will be lucky to get 10 plus innings in for his two starts in Week 2. He managed to pick up the win against the O’s in his first start, but he allowed three runs on six hits. He struck out six and that is about the norm per start for Doubront.I don’t trust his game against Texas or New York. Surely he can out duel Perez and Nova, but the potential to mess up the ERA and WHIP is extremely high. Ivan Nova - New York Yankees (1-0, 3.18) vs BAL (Wei-Yin Chen) & vs BOS (Felix Doubront) Brett Oberholtzer - Houston Astros (0-1, 4.76) @ TOR (Mark Buehrle) & @ TEX (Yu Darvish) Edwin Jackson - Chicago Cubs (0-0, 1.69) vs PIT (Charlie Morton) & @ STL (Michael Wacha)   Tanner Scheppers (19% owned)- Texas Rangers (0-0, 15.75 ERA) @ BOS (John Lackey) & vs HOU   I have every right to place Schheppers as a risky biz play this week. He got lit up against the Phillies in his first start of the year. His second start will come in Fenway against the high powered Red Sox. I already dropped him in one league, I wouldn’t play him against Boston. If he pitched well against the defending champs, well then I’ll play him against the lowly Astros. Only because I’d expect at least a win. That’s about the only thing you can count on with Tanner right now. Kevin Correia - Minnesota Twins (0-0, 3.00 ERA) vs OAK (Scott Kazmir) & vs KC (Jason Vargas) Felipe Paulino (1% owned) – Chicago White Sox (0-0, 1.69 ERA)  vs @ COL & vs CLE (Corey Kluber) Paulino was decent against the Twins, but let’s be real…it was against the Twins. He will have to brave Coors Field and in game two he gets a much tougher opponent than Minnesota in Cleveland. His start against the Twins was his first in the bigs since 2012, so it’s been awhile, but he threw 109 pitches and lasted only 5.1 innings giving up seven hits win six strikeouts. I’d stay away from Felipe in Week 2. He is one percent owned in Yahoo! leagues and that’s where that percentage should stay.
