PLAYERS: Steve Clevenger
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
I've only read the accounts of what happened last night, but that probably is best. Based on what has been said since the events of last night's Cubs @ Walgreens game, Jamie Quirk should be fired immediately and Steve Clevenger should be optioned off the team. The actions by both were ridiculous. Ever since Lou left this team has been a bunch of crybabies. Last year we had Quade complaining about teams running up the score when the other team led by 4 or 5 ******* runs. It's rubbed off on the players too. Steve Clevengers thinks a batter shouldn't be swinging 3-0 when their team leads by 5 in the middle of the ******* game. Unbelievable. Who taught these guys how to play baseball? That is all.

Cubs' Clevenger suspended one game

Chicago Cubs catcher Steve Clevenger has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for his role in a benches-clearing incident against the Nationals. Clevenger, who also was fined, did not appeal the penalty and was set to sit out Saturday night at Pittsburgh. During the sixth inning of the Cubs' 9-2 loss to Washington on Thursday night, a pitch from Chicago'...

Other ‘Unwritten Rules’ the Cubs Believe

As you’re aware, there was little dust-up between the Nats and Cubs on Thursday night after Chicago tried to bean Bryce Harper. Back-up catcher Steve Clevenger explained why after the game: “You’re up 7-2 … you don’t swing 3-0 in that situation.” Mind you, this occurred in the FIFTH INNING. Clevenger’s ridiculously stupid notion got us thinking about what other “unwritten...

Benches clear twice during Nats-Cubs game

In Thursday's Cubs-Nationals game, benches cleared in the sixth inning after Cubs reliever Lendy Castillo threw inside at Bryce Harper. Both benches cleared and the bullpens emptied onto the field. There was an incident at first base between Cubs reliever Manuel Corpas and Nationals reliever Mike Gonzalez led to both of their ejections, and Cubs catcher Steve Clevenger was...

Hardball Times: Soriano is not overpaid

This study leans a little more heavily on defensive metrics (and one in particular) than I'd like, though at least we have many seasons of data. It's otherwise a great look at the constantly maligned Alfonso Soriano. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/alfonso-soriano-is-not-overpaid/

Baez Tops End of Season Prospect List

MILB.com gets the gold star for getting their homework done first and has put out a Top 20 Cubs prospect list based off the end of the 2012 season. It's actually a fairly in-depth look at the system so I encourage folks to check it out. But as for the names, check after the jump... Tags: Cubs Prospect Lists

OPS Fantasy Leagues: Oh My, Starlin-Eyed Surprise

Starlin Castro – In the crazy town of Chicago, this 22-year-old shortstop certainly has the gift of game. He has been approaching the level of top tier at his position, but this has as much to do with his upside as the general lack of talent among other shortstops in the league. Looking at his 2012 season, it could very well be interpreted as a disappointment due to his drop in...

Daily Facepalm 9.8.2012

The Cubs beat the Pirates 12-2 for the irony alone, a day after declaring a five-run lead "piling on." But we've probably beat that dead horse enough. Play of the Day Brett "Ghost of Reed Johnson" Jackson didn't adjust his competitive settings to autopilot just because the Cubs had a ridiculous lead (die, dead horse, die more!). He went after this ball...

Benches clear twice as Nationals rout Cubs

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson doesn't believe in the notion that a team with a big lead should ease off the gas pedal. The Chicago Cubs beg to differ. Therein lies the reason for two near brawls Thursday night in the Nationals' 9-2 rout of the Cubs, which completed a four-game sweep. First, Cubs bench coach Jamie Quirk began yelling at Nationals third base...

Cubs/Nationals have bench-clearing brawl without the brawl part (Video)

Back on Thursday night, things got heated between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs in the 6th inning when Cubs pitcher Lendy Castillo nearly hit Nationals star Bryce Harper with a pitch. Harper who was not too pleased with the location of the ball went out to confront Castillo but before that happened, both teams cleared the benches for what would appear to be a brawl...

Youth Movement: Baseball’s Top 25, 25 And Under

There’s been a lot of stories to be had this season, but what’s really ran the course of the season is the youth movement that’s being served. Yet another highlight of it was served when the Chicago Cubs made a long-term deal with Starlin Castro, putting away the 22-year-old until nearly his 30th birthday last [...]The post Youth Movement: Baseball’s Top 25, 25 And Under...

MLB Insiders: Chicago Cubs

The Pirates open a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at PNC Park. Right-hander A.J. Burnett gets the start for the Bucs. The Cubs will counter with lefty Travis Wood.

Samarj told tomorrow will be last start as Cubs cautious with career hi innings total. Some dude claimed off waivers today to take spot. — Gordon Wittenmyer (@GDubCub) September 7, 2012

How to disgrace a hall of fame jersey

Here’s a great idea. How about I buy the jersey of a Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer (Ron Santo) and to be cooler than Stuart Scott I go ahead and change the name on the back of the jersey to “Marks”. AWESOME!!!!! That must have been the thought process of this Cubs fans who decided that it just wasn’t good enough to be walking around with an authentic Ron Santo jersey. He needed...
