Jarrod Parker threw arguably his best outing of the season Friday night as the Oakland A’s beat the Kansas City Royals on “Bacon Friday” at the Oakland Coliseum.
Parker tossed seven innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks. He struck out five batters and tossed 98 pitches, 60 for strikes, in his outing. He retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced on the evening. The only thing that eluded him was the win.
Sean Doolittle (3-0) earned the win in relief of Parker, throwing a scoreless eighth inning before handing the ball over to Grant Balfour, who converted his seventh save of the season.
James Shields threw a complete game for the Kansas City Royals, earning the loss despite a solid eight inning performance in which he allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out nine Oakland A’s batters.
Two of the six hits surrendered by Shields ended up over the fence though, giving Oakland a 2-1 win.

The A’s opening day starter, already nursing a sprained right ankle, will be out for at least the next four weeks with what the team called stress fracture in his right foot. Officially it’s a navicular stress fracture and will require rest and wearing a walking boot.

Josh Reddick took dry swings for the first time Saturday since going on the disabled list with a sprained wrist.
A’s manager Bob Melvin commented, “so far so good,” in response to how the session went. It is a good sign that he has not suffered a setback considering that he commented that surgery was not out of the question for him less than a week ago.

No debating this home run by Adam Rosales.
After being denied a game-tying homer last week in Cleveland that Major League Baseball said the umpiring crew should have reversed, Rosales hit a go-ahead shot leading off the eighth inning after Josh Donaldson connected one inning earlier in the Oakland Athletics' 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
