Jarrod Parker threw arguably his best outing of the season Friday night as the Oakland A’s beat the Kansas City Royals on “Bacon Friday” at the Oakland Coliseum. Parker tossed seven innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks. He struck out five batters and tossed 98 pitches, 60 for strikes, in his outing. He retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced on the evening. The only thing that eluded him was the win. Sean Doolittle (3-0) earned the win in relief of Parker, throwing a scoreless eighth inning before handing the ball over to Grant Balfour, who converted his seventh save of the season. James Shields threw a complete game for the Kansas City Royals, earning the loss despite a solid eight inning performance in which he allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out nine Oakland A’s batters. Two of the six hits surrendered by Shields ended up over the fence though, giving Oakland a 2-1 win. Josh Donaldson connected for his sixth home run of the seaso...
