Jed Lowrie met with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Wednesday and the Red Sox‘ diagnosis of his injured left shoulder was confirmed. A report from CSNNE.com reveals that Lowrie is suffering from a shoulder strain and he will not require surgery. The injury originally occurred during a collision with Carl Crawford on May 29th. He re-aggravated it after a swing and miss against Rays left-hander David Price last Thursday in Tampa Bay. According to the report, “Lowrie had been frustrated that, even before the incident at Tropicana Field, the shoulder was not getting better. It now seems, however, that rest and a strengthening program are the best route to a return to the lineup.” Lowrie began the year as one of the hottest hitters in baseball, but he’s just 5-for-39 with two extra-base hits since bruising his shoulder.
