Jeremy Jeffress is getting another opportunity with the Kansas City Royals, as he was recalled Wednesday from Class AAA Omaha, but he could be running out of chances.

There is no doubt Jeffress has a major league arm. His fastball has registered triple digits on radar guns.

Jeffress, who was one of four players acquired from the Brewers on Dec. 19, 2010, in the Zack Greinke deal, has had control problems. In 27 1/3 innings in the majors, he has walked 19.

"Consistency in command has been an issue," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He's been a lot more consistent, but he'll still have his hiccups here and there. For the most part he's been very consistent in one- and two-inning stints, coming in banging strikes with his fastball and with his breaking ball. He's been throwing the ball real well. We want to give him a look."

Yost said Jeffress would be used as a middle reliever. Jeffress did not pitch Wednesday night in the Royals' 5-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

In an April stint with Kansas City, Jeffress appeared in two games and allowed four hits and two walks in one scoreless inning.

With Omaha, he was 5-4 with two saves and a 4.97 ERA in 37 appearances, while walking 25 and striking out 61 in 58 innings. In his past 10 Omaha outings, he was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA.
