I’d hate to be a Florida Marlin fan right now. They sit there for almost 10 years watching players being traded, management complaining about lack of funds, and management complaining about the stadium. There were threats to move the team.
But finally there was a new stadium, and a new hope that the team would bring in free agents and compete.
Let’s go back a few weeks first.
Heath Bell, who was vocal about manger Ozzie Guillen, gets shipped out of Miami. He was one of 3 big free agent pick ups last off-season that gave fans hope. His season didn’t turn out as expected, blowing saves often early in the season. He was demoted from the closer role and butted heads with the egotistcal Guillen. The Marlins paid $8M to send him away and received an upper-marginal prospect in return.
It would be foreshadowing of things to come.
Days later Ozzie Guillen was fired. It’s puzzling; not because he didn’t deserve it, but because they just traded the player he was having issue...
