The news that the Oakland A’s started Jemile Weeks in centerfield was really only shocking to me in the sense that it hadn’t already happened. I’ve long felt, and stated openly, that I thought Weeks fit best in centerfield. His defense at second base just wasn’t solid enough for him to stick there, and I questioned whether he’d really be any better at shortstop. The A’s answered that question when they tried him there earlier this season. In case you were wondering, the answer was “no.” Centerfield just seemed like a natural fit. He has the speed to cover the ground there, and there really is no questioning his athleticism. I felt his game mirrored that of Coco Crisp, and Crisp is a center fielder, so why not? Oh, and it just so happens that Crisp made his minor league debut once upon a time as a, you guessed it, second baseman, before he was converted to centerfield.
