ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Jeremy Hellickson achieved some Tampa Bay Rays history Sunday. By allowing one run and six hits in six innings during the Rays 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field, the right-hander tied a franchise record with five victories in a calendar month. He joined left-handers Matt Moore (April 2013), David Price (June 2012) and Scott Kazmir (May 2008) as the only other pitchers in franchise history to achieve the feat. Hellickson allowed a career-high eight runs on June 13 in a loss to the Kansas City Royals. Excluding that start, however, he went 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA (six earned runs in 30 innings pitched). Hellickson is 7-3 with a 4.90 ERA this season. Ben Zobrist plunked, but Rays win battle of scoreboard

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Ben Zobrist stood in the Tampa Bay Rays clubhouse with a fresh red mark on his right wrist, a symbol of his anger and pride. Baseball is a game of unwritten rules, of scores made and scores settled, and he assumed a Detroit Tigers pitcher would plunk someone before the day was through. That someone turned out to be him, five pitches into right-hander Rick...

Evan Longoria remains under evaluation

Evan Longoria was in a walking boot Friday night as he left the stadium due the irritation of the plantar fasciitis in his right foot.  While it appeared as if the Rays would be placing the All-Star third baseman on the disabled list, the Rays will be taking it day by day for right now as they stated Longoria remains under evaluation. Before the injury, Longoria was one of only...

Rays Players Dress in ‘Accidential Preppie’ Theme for Road Trip Travel Day (Photos)

You have to hand it to Joe Maddon. When the Rays manager isn’t taking shots at the reigning Triple Crown winner, he’s a pretty jovial guy. Tampa Bay has long been known to play dress-up. Back in April, for instance, the team wore custom-made letterman jackets on a road trip that brought them through Fenway park. In 2012, it was nerd costumes. Really, the Rays’ themed-dress...

Rays' Evan Longoria battling plantar fasciitis

The Tampa Bay Rays are not expected to place Evan Longoria on the disabled list despite the fact that he has been battling plantar fasciitis.  The inflammation in Longoria's foot has been going on for about a month now, but Longoria has found a way to play through the pain for the most part.  He is optimistic that he will be able to avoid a trip to the DL. According to...

Rays pick 'preppie' theme for road trip to Houston

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. The Tampa Bay Rays have gone preppie. Well, sort of. The latest themed road trip for manager Joe Maddons team is titled, Accidental Preppie, which certainly fits his clubhouses anti-dress code culture. The Rays left Sunday for a four-game series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park dressed to impress in an unintentional way. Does the theme fit...

Tigers drop game, series to Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Jeremy Hellickson earned his fifth June win and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 3-1 Sunday in a game that included an early warning by the umpires. Hellickson (7-3) allowed one run over six-plus innings. He tied the team record for victories in one month held by Matt Moore, David Price and Scott Kazmir. Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth for...

Rays' Evan Longoria thinks he's close to returning to lineup

As we mentioned yesterday, Evan Longoria is looking to avoid the disabled list despite dealing with plantar fasciitis.  He has been playing through the pain, but is now getting some rest.  However, Longoria feels ready to return to the lineup and is determined to stay off the DL. According to Glenn Sattell of MLB.com, Longoria hopes to play again within the next couple of days...

Astros fan fails, and falls, trying to catch foul ball (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. A Houston Astros fan was knocked over by a foul ball that he tried to catch during Monday night's game at Minute Maid Park. It happened in the eighth inning as Tampa Bay Rays batter Matt Joyce hit the foul ball high up into the stands. The fan was in perfect position to catch the ball, but misjudged it and the ball went through his...

Miguel Cabrera's outburst befuddles victorious Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. There seemed to be heated words from the Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera toward the Tampa Bay Rays dugout Saturday, but there are few answers as to why. Cabrera, who went 1 for 4, struck out on five pitches against reliever Fernando Rodney in the 10th inning of the Rays 4-3 victory over the Tigers at Tropicana Field. After the sequence, Cabrera appeared to jaw...

Matt Moore, Ryan Roberts power Rays past Astros

HOUSTON (AP) -- Matt Moore allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings for his 11th win, and Ryan Roberts homered twice to give the Tampa Bay Rays a 12-0 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night. Moore (11-3) won his third straight decision and Cesar Ramos pitched two perfect innings to complete the two-hitter and help the Rays win their third in a row. Roberts made it 3-0 with...

Joe Maddon Wishes Miguel Cabrera ‘Wouldn’t Cry So Much’ After Tigers-Rays Altercation

During Saturday’s game between the Tigers and Rays, Miguel Cabrera did not appreciate a 10th-inning up-and-in pitch from Fernando Rodney. Cabrera barked at the Rays going back to the dugout after striking out, and, on Sunday, the Tigers appeared to retaliate by hitting Ben Zobrist in the first inning. An immediate warning by home plate umpire Vic Carapazza seemed to keep the incident...

GIF: Did Miguel Cabrera call Fernando Rodney a homosexual slur?

Video evidence shows that Detroit superstar Miguel Cabrera may have called Tampa Bay closer Fernando Rodney a homosexual slur after striking out against him Saturday.

Rays-Astros Preview

Matt Moore has been having some control issues, but what's more important is that he's back in the win column. The Tampa Bay Rays left-hander will try to win a third straight start Monday night when the Rays and Houston Astros begin a four-game set at Minute Maid Park. In part due to his 8-0 start, Moore (10-3, 3.95 ERA) is already one victory shy of a career high. However...

Rays rumors: David Price returns Tuesday, no trade this year

Rays fans need not fear the rumors about a trade of left-hander David Price to the Texas Rangers or anyone else. FOX Sports's Ken Rosenthal stated in his June 30 "Full Count" video that Price will stay in St. Petersburg. MLB Trade Rumors also carried the story. According to Rosenthal, an unnamed scout told him that the Rays were heavily examining the Rangers'...
