Before the Squawkers attended last night's return of Jesus Montero to Yankee Stadium, Lisa predicted that the former Yankee would hit a home run. And he did! Since Lisa has managed to jinx most Met games she has attended, I was hoping to return the favor, and it looked like it might happen when Montero's homer put the Mariners ahead in the sixth inning. But it was not to be.Last night, the Mets blew a ninth-inning lead and their five-game winning streak came to an end. The only other notable win streak the Mets have had this year (four games) came to an end when Lisa and I went to the April 10 loss to the Nationals. Maybe I should just stay out of all ballparks with Lisa when the Mets go on a winning streak. The apologists for the disastrous Montero-Michael Pineda trade can take heart in the fact that Montero's 1-for-4 evening dropped his Yankee Stadium batting average from .500 (15-for-30) to .471. His OPS in Yankee Stadium plummeted from 1.483 to 1.462.Meanwhile, curr...

The Montero Deal So Far
With the season finale of Fringe airing tonight, and Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s new album still playing in my car, the concept of alternate universes has been on my mind a bit. With Jesus Montero paying his first visit to the Bronx as a Seattle Mariner, I figured I’d explore how things might be different for the Yankees so far this year in a world where they still had their most...

Yankees DH’s have big night as Montero returns
The Yankees former top prospect, Jesus Montero, had a good night in his return to Yankee Stadium, hitting a solo shot in the 6th inning, but the pair who replaced him, Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones, had a pretty good night themselves.
Montero was expected to serve as the Yankees DH this season before he was traded to Seattle for Michael Pineda. After the deal the Bombers decided...

Hector Noesi excited for return to the Bronx
Considering the fact that he was never as big a prospect as Jose Campos is, Hector Noesi was probably the smallest name involved in the blockbuster deal that swapped Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda during the offseason. Regardless of how small his name is though, Noesi was no throw in.
Noesi broke in with the Yankees last year, playing in 30 games including just two starts, and...
Ibanez's HR lifts Yanks over M's
Jesus Montero walked up to the plate and lined an opposite-field home run over the right-field wall at Yankee Stadium.
It was as if he had never left.
Montero's sixth-inning drive against Hiroki Kuroda gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead over the New York Yankees on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Mariners, Raul Ibanez's three-run homer off Felix Hernandez in the bottom half...

Record 7-8
Bank Account -225
Mariners at Yankees - This one jumped off the board for me. Phillip Hughes is -170 today. Really? The same Hughes who may have had a decent start the last time out but has been awful all year long as his 2-4 with a 6.67 ERA shows. Okay, you busted me Hector Noesi also has an ERA of 6.30, but pitched an excellent game last time out for the Twins (insert...
