Derek Jeter— the New York Yankees most high-profile player and ambassador to the sport of baseball did his best Henry Kissinger impersonation and said Robinson Cano's treatment at the All-Star Game was wrong but not all of the fans are "idiots."

"It happens man, my parents sometimes don't go to games because of what fans do," said Jeter.  "I don't think that's a reflection of all the fans.  You're always going to run into an idiot here or there who's going to do something or say something to some one's family."

Jeter was referring to Monday night in Kansas City when a group of fans booed Cano and taunted his family while they made their way to a restroom inside Kauffman Stadium during the Home Run Derby.

Kansas City fans were angry that Cano didn't add Royals' player Billy Butler to the AL's Derby team roster.

"That's not a reflection, I think, on Kansas City or Kansas City's fans," Jeter said.  "Booing is fine.  You expect to get booed when you're on the road.

Take it from a guy who's been booed in almost every stadium to compare Cano's ice-cold reception at an All-Star Game to his own.

Jeter said Cano's treatment on Monday and Tuesday was nothing compared to his experience at Fenway Park during the 1999 All-Star game.

The Yankees Captain said Cano's boos sounded like "cheers" compared the the greeting he got in Boston.

"I didn't think I would make it through that trip," recalled Jeter.  "He'll [Cano] be all right."

Jeter can laugh about it now.  Boston fans have even come to respect the once-hated Yankee player.

It still baffles me why MLB would give a player the added responsibility of choosing players for a home run contest when the All-Stars already have enough obligations to meet during the All-Star break.

And who is Billy Butler anyway?

Still, when rival fans bring family into the picture— it does mean you are an idiot.
