Derek Jeter limped off the field in the eighth inning of the New York Yankees' 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, jamming his already bruised left ankle while trying to run out a double play ball.

Manager Joe Girardi didn't listen to Jeter's plea to stay in the game, ordering his shortstop to retreat to the clubhouse and ice his ankle. However, Girardi said he didn't expect Jeter to sit out Thursday's series finale, something Jeter said he has no plans to do.

"If he was out for a while, I'd be pretty concerned," Girardi said. "Knowing Derek as well as we all do, he's probably going to be in there tomorrow."

Jeter went 2-for-5 with a run, extending his hitting streak to eight games. He's batting .459 (17-for-37) during the streak, raising his average to .324.

Jeter had very little to say about his injured ankle, which he first hurt about a week ago during the series in Tampa Bay.

"I don't talk about injuries," Jeter said. "Either you play or you don't. I'm playing, so it's not an issue. At this point in the season, I'm sure there are a lot of guys that have some things bothering them. I'm really never one to talk about them."
