SI.com’s Tom Verducci revealed that Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta’s name was found within the records of a clinic who has been linked to possibly providing performance-enhancing drugs to Major League ballplayers. Verducci cited unnamed sources who scoured the records of Anthony Bosch’s now closed anti-aging clinic in Miami.  SI would not go as far to say that Peralta was directly tied to PEDs in the paperwork.  This is the same clinic that has been linked to the Brewers 2011 National League MVP Ryan Braun, Gio Gonzalez of the Nationals, the Rangers’ Nelson Cruz among others. Peralta released a statement through his attorney Barry Boss that he’s never used PEDs — “and anyone who says otherwise is lying.” If Jhonny is in fact lying, it goes to show you that PED’s are not the be-all end-all, unless he was using in 2011.  Since 2008, Peralta has not hit more than 15 home runs in a season (aside from 2011 when he hit 21) and has not hit better than .254 (again, aside from 2011 when he hit .299). If Peralta indeed took some PEDs, the news wouldn’t be all bad.  Unlike his indifference toward diving for balls up the middle, taking PEDs would at least show he cared.  Hey, I call it like it see it.
