Royals farm report: Montgomery in Double-A

The Royals again are searching for solutions on how to jump start the career of left-handed prospect Mike Montgomery. Privately hoping this spring that Montgomery might make a move toward making the 25-man roster, the Royals instead settled for sending Montgomery back to Triple-A Omaha. There, Montgomery was again just as inconsistent as he was last year. Then the Royals reached...

In case you missed it yesterday, here is the Kansas City Royals press release announcing Jason Kendall's retirement: KANSAS CITY, MO (July 24, 2012) — Veteran catcher Jason Kendall announced his retirement today at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Ark., home of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.  Kendall, 38, played in two games for Kansas City’s Double-A affiliate after...

Smith rewards Royals for their faith

After the Royals acquired right-hander Jeremy Guthrie in a trade Friday, they opted to keep rookie left-hander Will Smith in the rotation. Although Smith had a 7.97 ERA and 1-3 record, having allowed 26 hits and seven home runs through four starts, the Royals wanted to give him a prolonged look as a starter. That certainly looked like a wise decision Tuesday night, as Smith beat...

Players The Royals Should Be Moving At The Trade Deadline

The Kansas City Royals find themselves in an all too familiar place at the 2012 trade deadline, as they are once again in “sell” mode. Reality is starting to sink in. 2012 is certainly not appearing to be #OurTime. The Royals currently sit at 14 games under .500 (40-54) and 11 games behind the 1st place and surging Detroit Tigers. And after going 3-7 on their most recent homestand...

One Final Rewind for Jason Kendall

[Image by Justin Bopp] After one of the lamest comeback attempts in recent memory (Manny Ramirez probably takes that trophy home), Jason Kendall has retired. While Kendall’s last few seasons were pretty miserable performances (although that did not stop the Royals and Brewers from marching him out there as much as they possibly could — indeed, Kendall insisted on it), he was...

Royals affiliate hosting peanut-free game

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Anyone going out to the Omaha Storm Chasers ball game on Aug. 1 won't be able to buy peanuts or, for that matter, Cracker Jack. The Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals will take anything containing peanuts off its concessions menu for the game against the Reno Aces. The Storm Chasers and an Omaha allergy clinic are holding Peanut Free...

Royals Interested in Trading to Acquire Marlins’ Ace Josh Johnson

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Kansas City Royals may have interest in acquiring 28 year-old starting pitcher Josh Johnson from the Maimi Marlins. The righty may be the next piece dealt away by the Marlins, who have already traded SP Anibal Sanchez, INF Omar Infante and 3B Hanley Ramirez. The Marlins dropped $191 million on three "elite" free agents in the...

Game Recap 7/24/12: Stupid is as stupid does - Royals 4 Angels 1

Did the Angels just get punked on by Will Smith of the Royals? You gotta be kidding me, that was absolutely f'ing pathetic. This is a guy who posted a freaking 7+ ERA with the Royals so far, a guy who had OBVIOUS TROUBLE throwing consistent strikes in tonight's game. Yet the Angels hitters, in key situations, saw fit to swing wildly at the absolute worst pitch possible....
