A night after losing 15-3, the Phillies, behind Joe Blaton’s complete game, beat the Atlanta Braves, 4-0. A day after the Phillies used six pitchers in 11 inning, it was important for Blanton to go deep into Thursday’s get away game. The last time Blanton got a complete game shutout he was with the Oakland A’s in 2007. Blanton gave up three hits, no runs, no walks and six strikeout. “They got a big ballpark here,” Blanton said post-game. “Shane Victorino has something like two Gold Gloves, so I used him a lot.” A sacrifice fly by Hunter Pence scored Jimmy Rollins for a 1-0 lead. Phillies fans who watched all of the 15-13 game, were ready for a quick, quiet day, and they got it from Blanton. The most exciting part of Thursday’s game was the strike calls from home plate umpire Jim Joyce. Laynce Nix’s solo home run in the seventh gave the Phillies some breathing room at 2-0, but the key came in the eighth inning.
