Considering that Joe Mauer is the franchise player for Minnesota’s baseball team, I guess it’s only fitting that he’s going to have a set of twins. The Twins confirmed Wednesday night that Mauer and his wife Maddie are expecting their first children, and it will be a set of twins Mauer and his wife Maddie Bisanz were married in early December in St. Paul, where Mauer grew up. The 29-year-old catcher told the St. Paul Pioneer Press the following: “Obviously we’re both really excited and couldn’t be happier. Everything so far is good.” Mauer signed and eight-year, $184 million extension back in 2010, which mean’s he’ll be with the Twins through 2018. After the Twins made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 MLB Draft, Mauer has spent his entire nine-year career in Minnesota, including an MVP season in 2009. Mauer is a five-time All-Star, three-time AL batting champion, three-time Gold Glove winner and a four-time Sliver Slugger Award winner. Last season he hit .319 with 10 home runs and 85 RBI. He won the 2009 American League MVP. Oddly enough, former Minnesota outfielder Michael Cuddyer’s wife had twins after the 2011 season as well.
