PLAYERS: John Axford
TEAMS: Milwaukee Brewers
John Axford is a unique story. At one time Axford was just a normal everyday guy selling cell phones and bar tending at a local joint in Ontario, Canada. Today he is the Brewers go to man late in the game. John Axford’s path to the major leagues is inspiring, and hopeful as he followed his dreams despite the many obstacles in his way. At 6 foot 5 inches tall Axford intimidates batters with his presence on the mound and his mid 90′s fastball, curve, slider and change keep players guessing late into games.  He is now one of the premier closers in the National league however he still needs to work on his control. Look out for him in the 2012-season as he will be vital to the success of the Brew Crew. 2011 Stats: ERA: 1.95 W-L: 2-2 SV: 46 WHIP: 1.14         var conf_37418 = { APIKey: '2_N1YlfjHIEAtyRAK3CAYRE5a1aBuANuMOCLc_7hsOQ13HnwCrW_u-6OuDhjC7vR06 ', lang : 'en', enabledProviders: '' }; var image37418 = {src:...

Gonzalez could be underrated acquisition

When Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin turned over three infield spots this offseason, two of the new guys got a lot of attention -- largely because of the man they are replacing. After Prince Fielder signed a 214 million free-agent contract with Detroit, the Brewers were left with holes at first base and in the cleanup spot, and much speculation centered on whether...

Brewers' Lucroy poised to take the next step

There's very little in the game of baseball that scares Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. He can handle a hard foul ball off his mask. He can duck out of the way of an up-and-in fastball. And he can certainly stand his ground as a base runner comes charging toward home plate. There is one thing, however, the 25-year-old backstop wants nothing to do with: complacency...

Hart on track in recovery from knee surgery

Just 13 days after undergoing surgery to repair torn meniscus in his right knee, Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Corey Hart took batting practice Monday in Arizona. Hart, a two-time All-Star, was expected to miss three to four weeks after the March 6 surgery, and his status for opening day had been in question. But he seems to be recovering on schedule if not ahead of it. "...

Brewers have stability in C Lucroy

He doesn't exactly stand out on a team with Ryan Braun, Nyjer Morgan and Zack Greinke. All the same, catcher Jonathan Lucroy has quietly brought a sense of stability to the Milwaukee Brewers. Lucroy missed the first 10 games of last season with a broken right pinkie, but wound up starting 114 games and anchoring a pitching staff that carried Milwaukee to the NL Central Division...

Shaun Marcum May Start Season on DL

This has gone unnoticed to some degree among the flood of basketball-related excitement, but something's up with Shaun Marcum: The righty has been having shoulder trouble in camp, to the point where he might start the season on the disabled list. At the beginning of camp, it was reported that Marcum was dealing with some stiffness/soreness in his shoulder. The Brewers put him...

We're back, only a bit later than last week to give you our look into the Brewers making headlines and low-lights in Spring Training.  It's been an interesting week as some players that appeared on one list or the other may have flipped positions in just one weeks time.  So, who made our three up and who's performance hasn't past the mustard for our three down?...

PHOENIX (AP) -- The game between the Milwaukee Brewers and a Texas Rangers split squad was rained out in the fourth inning on Sunday. The Brewers scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-4 lead. After Manny Parra pitched a scoreless fourth, Michael Kirkman threw one pitch in the bottom of the inning before the umpires called for the tarp. After a 12-minute rain delay...

Rangers-Brewers rained out

The game between the Milwaukee Brewers and a Texas Rangers split squad was rained out in the fourth inning on Sunday. In the Brewers' four-run third inning, Nyjer Morgan singled and was stopped at third when Aramis Ramirez's line drive down the left-field line hopped over the bullpen wall, hit a fence and came back onto the field for a ground-rule double. Mat Gamel followed...

(photo courtesy Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)In a matchup of the two newest Japanese imports it was the lesser known of the two who got the best of today's Spring Training matchup as Norichika Aoki led the Brewers over Yu Darvish and the Rangers.  Aoki had three hits and three RBI's in Milwaukee's 5-3 victory today.  The win moved the Brewers to 7-9 so far in Spring...
