PLAYERS: John Axford
TEAMS: Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford is known for a few things.

He's tall, ruggedly handsome and despite hailing from Canada (he's currently sixth among his countrymen in career saves), he brought home the 2011 American Mustache Institute's prestigious Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year Award.

Oh, and like the rest of us working stiffs, the mustachioed hurler pays the U.S. Government a healthy sum in taxes.

That's why Axford is speaking out in support of the Stache Act, proposed legislation from the American Mustache Institute and a noted tax policy professor which would provide an annual $250 tax refund to people of facial hair.

The closer is asking taxpayers to demonstrate their support by ‘staching their photo at StacheAct.com, as for each participant, H&R Block will make a donation to Millions From One.

Axford backs 'Stache for cash tax break

PHOENIX Add Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford to the list of those supporting proposed legislation to provide an annual 250 tax credit to mustachioed and bearded Americans. "I'm just trying to help bearded and mustached fellows, like myself, try to make this country a little more handsome and better-looking," Axford said Thursday. The STACHE Act (Stimulus to Allow...

Rodriguez, Axford wrap up victories for Brewers

Francisco Rodriguez and John Axford are a tough combination to beat, and the Milwaukee Brewers' starters love it. The Brewers never lost a regular-season game that they led after seven innings upon acquiring Rodriguez, who tied for the National League lead with 17 holds from July 16 through the end of the regular season. Axford set a franchise record with 46 saves in 48 chances...

Brewers Make 5 Non-Painful Cuts

Scott Paulus/Brewers The Brewers made the first reductions to their Spring Training roster today, cutting five players from major-league camp, according to Media Relations Director Mike Vassallo. Right-hander Taylor Jungmann, lefty Jed Bradley, and catcher Anderson De La Rosa have all been reassigned to minor-league camp, and righty Cody Scarpetta and outfielder/living legend Brock...

Weeks brothers facing off in Arizona

PHOENIX It's a scene that plays out hundreds of times over the course of a 162-game Major League Baseball season: a runner takes a big lead off first base, dances a little bit and once the pitcher takes notice, tries to dart back to first ahead of the throw, only to be caught between two fielders. Such a scene played out in the first inning of the Milwaukee Brewers' March...

Its not all an act: Tony Plush can play

PHOENIX Forget the personalities Tony Plush, Tony Gumbel, Tony Hush ... forget all of them there's something very important people need to know about Nyjer Morgan: He's a pretty darn good baseball player. Morgan, the Milwaukee Brewers' always-entertaining outfielder, drew a cult following last season when he and his alter-ego, the gentlemanly Tony Plush, helped lead...

Narveson pitches into the 4th, Brewers win

PHOENIX (AP) -- If the Milwaukee Brewers can get anywhere near the same type of starting pitching during the regular season that they are getting this spring, a second straight NL Central title would appear to be well within reach. Left-hander Chris Narveson kept the momentum going on Thursday, pitching 3 2-3 scoreless innings in the Brewers' 6-4 victory over the San Diego...

Roenicke keeping an eye on young pitchers

PHOENIX Usually during split-squad games, Ron Roenicke stays back at Maryvale Baseball Park. Tuesday, however, the Milwaukee Brewers' manager made the 25-minute trek across Phoenix to get a good look at players fighting for a roster spot as the Brewers took on Oakland at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Roenicke wanted to focus his attention on a few of the team's young pitchers...

Wolf produces another solid start for Brewers

MESA, Ariz. Another day in Arizona, another strong performance by a member of the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation. Wednesday was Randy Wolf's turn to start and, as the Milwaukee starters have all through Cactus Legaue play, the veteran left-hander was outstanding, scattering five hits and a walk over four innings with four strikeouts in a 10-2 win over the Cubs at HoHoKam Stadium...

Brewers beaten by Manny Ramirez, Athletics

PHOENIX (AP) -- Manny Ramirez hit his first home run of the spring and Yoenis Cespedes went hitless again in Oakland's 8-6 win Tuesday over a Brewers split squad. Ramirez blasted a solo homer to left-center in his first at-bat against Milwaukee right-hander Mike Fiers. Ramirez, who has not played in the majors since last April, had been 0 for 8 this spring. He also drew a walk...

Brewers Pound Cubs 10-2, 'Nuff Said

I don't know about you, but I take great pride in taking down the Cubbies, no matter if it's Spring Training, the regular season, or heck, even a company picnic between the two teams (o.k., that last part isn't likely to have ever happened, but you get the point).  The Brewers and more importantly George Kottaras came out swinging as Milwaukee took out the Chicago Cubs...

Mariners 7, Brewers 4

Zack Greinke threw three scoreless innings for Milwaukee's split squad and the Seattle Mariners came back to beat the Brewers 7-4 Tuesday. Greinke gave up one hit and struck out five. He left after issuing his lone walk to Casper Wells leading off the fourth. Alex Liddi hit a go-ahead single for the Mariners in a five-run ninth. Michael Saunders added a two-run double off Mark...

Milwaukee Brewers will loss 100 games

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to suck this year at a near record level.  Only once in this franchise’s “storied” history have they lost 100 games.  In 2002, they were, and ouchie wow wow, 56-106.  This year I see them losing an even 100.    With all the sucky teams the Brewers have had why will this be the 2nd worst ever?   I’m glad you asked.   Pitching.  Pitching...
