The 2013 MLB All-Star game will be hosted by the Mets this season at Citi Field on July 16th, which is exciting in itself, but the potential of having multiple Mets representing the organization in the game could make it a memorable day for the franchise. The Mets have eight players on the ballot for the 84th edition of the All-Star game, which is voted on by fans: Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy, David Wright, Ruben Tejada, John Buck, Mike Baxter, Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The AL All-Star team will have nine elected starters via the fan balloting program, including a designated hitter, while the NL All-Star team will have eight fan-elected starters. The pitchers and reserves for both squads (totalling 25 for the NL and 24 for the AL) will be determined through a combination of player ballot choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers — AL skipper Jim Leyland of the Tigers and NL manager Bruce Bochy of the defending World Series champion Giants. The balloting...

Matt Harvey’s Starts Are The High Point Of Every Week For The 2013 Mets

For those of us who hung with last night’s (4/24) game vs. the Dodgers – and your intrepid columnist was barely one of those – there were numerous rewards. Working backwards, there was Jordany Valdespin’s walkoff grand slam, of course. There was the grit – Oh! That Word! – on display in the eighth and ninth, typified by Mike Baxter’s hustling double in front of...

Marketing Matt Harvey: Is It Too Much Too Soon?

While approaching Citi Field last night one couldn’t help but notice the monstrous digital image of Matt Harvey on a video board outside the stadium with the screaming caption, “Harvey-licious.’’ When logging onto the Mets’ website there was an advertisement plugging Harvey T-Shirts. And, all of this is for a guy who was starting just his 15th major league game. I am...

The @Mets Think Ike Davis is John Buck

#Mets catcher @johnbuck44 signs autographs during BP!! twitter.com/Mets/status/32… — New York Mets (@Mets) April 26, 2013 The people who run the Mets Twitter account are around the team everyday. Most of the times, it is members of the P.R. department that are doing the tweeting. The fact that they took the picture of Ike Davis signing autographs about 10 feet away and still...

ate inning heroics by Jordany Valdespin give the Mets a grand victory

Matt Harvey allowed three-runs on Wednesday evening, but the New York Mets were able to overcome the deficit en route to their tenth victory of the season. David Wright kept Harvey unbeaten with a two-out game tying single in the ninth and  Jordany Valdespin capped off the rally with a walk-off grand-slam in the tenth. It was the Mets second walk-off win of the season and their...

Tigers' Porcello between ace and bust

Leading up to the 2007 draft, current New York Mets sensation Matt Harvey wasn't the consensus top high school pitcher in the country. That distinction belonged to Rick Porcello of Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J. The two had become friends, owing to their common Northeast roots -- Harvey is from Groton, Conn. -- and letters of intent to pitch at the University of North...

Pie In The Face Was A Cheap Shot, Valdespin’s Teammates Owe Him An Apology

What was supposed to be a thrilling night after a dramatic walk-off win courtesy of a Jordany Valdespin grand slam has turned into an evening of anger and confusion. What the hell was the deal with that pie to the face by John Buck? Check out this GIF courtesy of @MetsKevin11 on Twiitter: That was messed up. It wasn’t just a pie to the face, it was more like an F-U Kid...

They say Christmas comes but once a year. But we know better. We here in Flushing get to watch Matt Harvey, and every start has been dubbed "Matt Harvey Day". It's a little dangerous, considering that Harvey can't very well go eight innings and give up one run every game.He can't be dominant every night, and we learned that in his latest start against the Los...

Can Jordany Valdespin’s walk-off grand slam lead to better things?

Talk about a pick-me up! After an uninspiring first-game effort against the Dodgers on Tuesday and then failing to do much in Matt Harvey’s so-so start(at least by Harvey standards) to begin Wednesday night’s affair, the Mets appeared on the verge of dropping their second straight game to the Dodgers. The Mets were listless offensively for eight innings and were trailing the...
