Pre-game snowflakes were not enough to cool down John Buck and the New York Mets offense at Target Field on Friday night.  The Mets pounded out five runs in each of the first two innings, including a grand-slam by Buck in second, en-route to a 16-5 victory over the Twins. #bbpBox_322897932317782018 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_322897932317782018 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } From frivolity department (via Elias): Mets are 1st team in MLB history to score 5+ runs in each of first 2 innings first time at a ballpark about 3 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin #bbpBox_322913121276678145 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_322913121276678145 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } 16 runs for the #Mets. If he homers tomorrow, he’ll tie Richard Hidalgo’s franchise record of 5 straight games with homer. about 4 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin Over the first two weeks of the season, Buck is hitting, .357 (13-for-37) with 6 HR (his career high is 20) and a MLB leading 19 RBI. The 19 RBI is the highest total in a month of the 9-year veterans career –  previous career high for a month was 17 — and his six home runs have surpassed the home run total from Mets catchers for the entire 2012 season (not a typo). According to FoxSports.com, “Buck became only the fourth major league player in at least 92 years to reach 19 RBIs in the first 10 games of a season, according to STATS research dating to 1921. Chris Davis did it for Baltimore this year, Manny Ramirez for Cleveland in 1999 and Lou Gehrig for the Yankees in 1927 were the others.”   JON NIESE: Niese lasted only five innings on Friday night, ending his streak of 22 consecutive starts tossing six or more innings. #bbpBox_322894186275823617 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_322894186275823617 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Jon Niese at 100 pitches through five innings. Has made 22 straight starts of 6+ innings, longest active in majors. about 3 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin The left-hander allowed five runs — four earned — on five hits and four walks while striking out one, improving to 2-0 in the process.   OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: David Wright broke an 0-for-8 skid with a three-hit, four RBI night and Daniel Murphy contributed four hits and four RBI of his own as the duo combined to go 7-for-10 with 8 RBI, 5 RS, three doubles and a triple. New York sent nine batters to the plate in each of the first two innings, totaling ten runs on nine hits.  Jordany Valdespin got the contest started with a single to left before advancing to third on Daniel Murphy’s double.  Both men were plated when David Wright drilled a double to center. Two batters later, Marlon Byrd capped off the inning with a two-run single to right.  Then again in the second, Valdespin singled to start the frame in front of back-to-back singles by Murphy and Wright. After a walk to Ike Davis loaded the bases, John Buck hit a moon shot into the second deck to clear the bases. The Mets added four more runs in seventh, a three-run double off the bat of Murphy, followed by an RBI triple from Wright.  Two more runs in the ninth concluded the hit parade for the evening as the Mets scored 16 runs on 15 hits, receiving multi-hit games from five players.   MUST SEE TV: Get your house hold chores done early and get ready for must see T.V. tomorrow as Matt Harvey (2-0, 0.64 ERA) takes the mound for New York, squaring off against Scott Diamond.
