Newly hired Red Sox manager John Farrell is already receiving accolades in Boston, without even managing a game. Farrell will be honored on Thursday night by The American Ireland Fund at their Boston Gala Dinner at the Westin Waterfront Hotel. With Farrell’s hiring, he became the 20th manager of Irish descent with the organization in the 112 year history of Boston baseball. The American Ireland Fund is a philanthropic organization that raises money for worthy causes in Ireland and around the world. In correlation with other Ireland funds across the globe, the organization has raised over $430 million in charitable donations. At Thursday’s dinner, another $2.5 million is expected to be raised for the organization’s Promising Ireland campaign, which supports nonprofits in the Emerald Isle. This will be Farrell’s first public appearance since his introductory press conference for the Red Sox.
