PLAYERS: Johnny Cueto
TEAMS: Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Johnny Cueto seemed to have trouble blocking out the Pittsburgh Pirates fans calling his name during Tuesday night's National League Wild Card playoff game at PNC Park, as he dropped the ball while standing at the mound as Pirates fans chanted his name. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the second inning as Cueto was preparing to throw a 2-1 pitch to Pirates catcher Russell Martin. As the "Cueto" chant began to hit a fever pitch, the baseball fell out of Cueto's glove and rolled down the pitcher's mound onto the grass. The drop by Cueto foreshadowed things to come, as on the very next pitch, Martin hit a home run to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead, and the Pirates never looked back. Cueto only lasted 3 1/3 innings after giving up four runs on 7 hits, and the Pirates defeated the Reds 6-2 to advance to the Divisional Playoff round against the St. Louis Cardinals. H/T BMS. ESPN mocks Johnny Cueto for dropping ball against Pirates (Video)

ESPN mocked Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto during a Wednesday episode of SportsCenter for dropping the ball on the mound during the previous night's National League Wild Card playoff game in Pittsburgh. As SportsCenter headed to a commercial break, anchor David Lloyd was being taunted by what appeared to be a group of interns when he dropped his notes (skip ahead...

Pirates Homer Twice Off Johnny Cueto in Second to Take Early Lead in NL Wild-Card Game (GIFs)

The atmosphere was electric in Pittsburgh on Tuesday for the Pirates’ first home playoff game since 1992, and the home team didn’t wait long to give Bucco Nation something to cheer about. Marlon Byrd, who was acquired from the Mets in a midseason deal, took Reds starter Johnny Cueto deep to lead off the second inning, and Russell Martin followed suit two batters later, whipping...

WATCH: Todd Frazier makes great catch going into camera well

Johnny Cueto is getting absolutely pounded early on in Pittsburgh, allowing three runs in the first three innings and getting so rattled by a raucous PNC Park crowd that he dropped the ball right out of his hand while preparing to throw a pitch. The score could be a lot worse than 3-0 through three if it weren't for Reds third baseman Todd Frazier. With two on and two out in...

MLB Game Picks - Tuesday: October 1, 2013

If you are a fan of the Texas Rangers, how do you view the past few years? Is it a good thing that the team has been very good and has continued to make the post season? Or is it ultimately a bad thing with two losses in the World Series--one a brutal loss--two play-in losses and September fades? Judging from the reaction of my Twitter buds who are Rangers fans, it was another brutal...

PNC Park and Johnny Cueto: What did sweeping the Reds get the Pirates?

When the Pirates started their weekend series with the Reds last Friday, it was clear that home field advantage was on the line. What we didn't know at the time was that by clinching home field advantage a day early with easy wins on Friday and Saturday, the Pirates also changed their mound opponent tonight from Mat Latos to Johnny Cueto (the Reds say that the reason they scratched...

An Oakland Raiders Fan Feels Sorry For Cincinnati Reds Fans (And Johnny Cueto)

[Note: I am an Oakland Raiders fan. The Raiders have been the losingest football team in the NFL since 2003. Despite how bad things get for the Raiders, something always sucks for another team. I'm here to provide company for your misery.] “I really thought it started with the crowd, it started with our atmosphere,” […]The post An Oakland Raiders Fan Feels Sorry For Cincinnati...

Reds flop again in postseason, fall to Pirates 6-2

The Cincinnati Reds have learned how to reach the postseason. Winning once they get there, however, remains elusive. Johnny Cueto struggled with his command and a raucous crowd that relentlessly taunted him as the Reds fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Tuesday night in the NL wild-card game. The Reds, who won 90 games and reached the playoffs for the third time in four years...

Wife of Reds pitcher Mat Latos says she was assaulted by Pirates fan

PNC Park on Tuesday was not a pleasant place for Johnny Cueto, the Cincinnati Reds or family members of the team’s players. Reds End Season

The Reds faced a familiar foe in the wild-card play-in and their season-ending woes continued to limit their post season to only one game, a 6-2 loss at Pittsburgh. Johnny Cueto was ineffective and the Pirates never looked back after taking a second inning lead from two homers.

NLDS: Pirates Postseason Is In the Cards

Major League Baseball’s postseason euphoria is already in high gear and the first series hasn’t even started yet.  This is due in large part to the expanded Wild Card format and the tiebreaker game. After a postseason drought that had reached the legal drinking age of 21 years the Pittsburgh Pirates made a triumphant return Tuesday night defeating the Cincinnati Reds, 6-2.  Backed...

Pirates 6, Reds 2

That. Was. Incredible. The Pirates are moving on to the NLDS after defeating the Reds in the wildest, most emotional, powerful sports environment you will ever witness. After being a part of it, I’m confident that is not hyperbole. This was an absolutely epic evening that no Pirate fan will ever forget. The blackout – which was a tremendous success. The countless rousing ovations...

Reds head home with few answers for how season ended

The federal government and the Cincinnati Reds both shut down Tuesday and the Reds won’t be back until next April. In actuality Pittsburgh Pirates left hander Francisco Liriano shut down the Reds in the National League wild-card game holding them to four hits in a 6-2 victory at PNC Park. On the other side the Johnny Cueto Comeback Story was a bust. He couldn’t keep his pitches...
