The Red Sox will only go as far in 2013 as their rotation will take them, and Jon Lester is perhaps expected to be the ace of the group.
Lester sat down to talk to Peter Gammons and Tom Caron on Thursday, and he admitted that there were a lot of negatives to take away from 2013. He says that he stepped completely away from baseball last October — even avoiding watching the MLB playoffs — in an attempt to regroup mentally. However, Lester is back in Fort Myers having since refocused on baseball.
Check out Lester talk about his trials and tribulations — and optimism heading into a new season — in the video above.

David Ortiz has a low opinion of MLB players in light of the most recent PED scandal with the Biogenesis clinic in South Florida.
Jon Lester and his fellow Red Sox pitchers are working their way back to Opening Day form, but even spring training leaves them time for other activities.
On Wednesday, Lester apparently spent that free time working on his fishing, and he had quite a successful outing. Now, the catch is not as big as the 500-pounder the Angels’ Mike Trout reeled in, but Lester’s catch is still...
In keeping with our current trend here at Red Sox Life we
want to supply you (Red Sox Nation) with a plethora of spring training videos. The
video below is an interesting contrast of styles as Shane Victorino, Jonny
Gomes and David Ortiz take live batting practice on Friday at JetBlue Park.
One of the funniest moments during the 2:09 video was when David Ortiz made an "...
Shane Victorino wasn’t even wearing a Red Sox uniform during the 2012 season, but he says he’s already tired of hearing about last year in Boston.
To be sure, much of the talk surrounding the Sox is how they’ll be able to bounce back after a disappointing campaign, but with the positive attitude of Victorino, things are bound to get better. The Red Sox’ new right fielder...
No, Clay Buchholz. It’s not golf, and the lowest score doesn’t win.
On Wednesday the Red Sox right-hander took his turn in the Beautyrest Baggo Classic, and, despite some impressive athletic displays last year, didn’t fare too well this time around. Buchholz ended up with a couple hangers, but ultimately could muster up only three points over his two rounds, putting him in...
Suffice to say, 2012 was a bizarre season for Dustin Pedroia and the Red Sox.
After an uncharacteristic losing campaign experienced by the scrappy second baseman, Pedroia went home and, according to him, had a relatively normal offseason. Nonetheless, Pedroia says that, despite what happened last year, the expectations for himself and the team are just as high as they ever were,...
It was a wild ride, but the NESN Spring Training Kickoff Tour has come to a close. Fortunately, that means we’re that much closer to Opening Day.
Don Orsillo, Jerry Remy and Jenny Dell concluded their four-day tour by spending an eventful day in Rhode Island that included a number of stops, plenty of laughs and now countless memories.
The crew kicked off the day in Providence,...

For those waiting to see Doug Flutie get his arm back in the game, the time has come — although they’ll have to be satisfied with watching the quarterback sling a knuckleball.
Flutie and four other former athletes are working with former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield to see who can master Wakefield’s signature pitch, the knuckleball. The player who figures it out the best and...
When the Red Sox signed John Lackey as a free agent in December of 2009, they had some concern about an existing elbow injury, but not enough concern to walk away from the deal entirely. So, they (or maybe his agent) came up with a pretty creative solution, adding a league minimum club option to the end of the deal if Lackey missed significant time due to an elbow issue. Sure enough...
One big question mark coming into spring training this
season was the health of John Lackey. Lackey had Tommy John surgery in 2011
during the off-season which landed him on the disabled list the entire 2012
season. Now Lackey is back and ready to kick start his career by providing the
Red Sox with some much needed depth in the starting rotation.
It’s not surprising that...
Any viewer joining Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo on a Red Sox broadcast knows that the former second baseman likes to have a fit of laughter every once and a while. They just might not expect to encounter one of the classic giggle fits during a call to customer service.
During a stop on the NESN Tour this Wednesday, the RemDawg helped field customer support calls at Comcast offices...
It’s no surprise on the day former Red Sox third/first baseman Kevin Youkilis reported
to Yankees spring training the first words out of his mouth to the media were
about the Red Sox. What may surprise you to know is that those words were spoken
with high regard for his former organization.
Youkilis spent 9 years with the Red Sox organization (2004-2012) and was a vital member...
