After being released by the Yankees to pursue a contract in Japan, we learn that right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo has agreed to a one-year, $950k deal with Hideki Matsui’s old team, the Yomiuri Giants (of Japan’s Central League). Albaladejo was reportedly close to signing with the Giants last week, but, at that time, details of the deal were unknown. By joining Yomiuri, Alby will see a significant uptick in his income after having made $250k with the Yankees in 2010. Said Giants manager Tatsunori Hara, “[Albaladejo] has the ability to start or come on in relief. His role will depend on the situation of the team.” The Giants recently cut ties with closer Marc Kroon, so perhaps we’ll see Alby fill-in there.
